Despite a mild day, a cool 12 minute car ride, and an air-conditioned home, the cake began to collapse within 10 minutes of sitting on the counter in my air-conditioned home—layers shifted, and a large crack split the top. It was incredibly disappointing, especially given the care I took to preserve it. Whether the issue stemmed from the baking, assembly, or icing, it clearly wasn’t built to hold up. With no time to replace it, I had to serve it as-is and laugh it off with my guests. To top it off, what appeared to be decorative white candy balls turned out to be bubble gum—definitely not what I expected. I won’t be ordering another cake from Albertsons, and I seriously considered requesting a refund.
