On the Border has always been our go to place when wanting Mexican food. My husband and I were so disappointed with the food this time. Let’s start off with the chips and salsa..The chips were good as usual, but the salsa was terrible.. They have changed the salsa to some kind of fire roasted recipe that had no spice at all and is very greasy tasting. Our enchiladas were okay, but the tacos we had were saturated with grease. The shells were soggy from the amount of grease in the meat. I don’t know that we will ever go back. Disappointing, to say the least.

I’ve been an On The Border customer since they opened. The food is generally good, but over time they gradually changed their menu and atmosphere. They became less Tex-Mex which led to financial issues and the subsequent sale of the business. The one staple of their business has always been their chips and salsa which was excellent. In fact, it was so popular it found its way to grocers shelves. For some reason, the new owners replaced the legendary chips and salsa with a poor concoction they apparently acquired in Canada, or maybe Taiwan. I’m not really sure, but I am certain it is not Tex-Mex hot sauce. It tastes a bit like lime juice with some odd seasoning, but conspicuously absent is the taste of jalapeño. Instead of being red, it lbs an unappealing brownish color. At a glance, I asked my server, “What is this?” She quietly confided it was the new salsa, and that I was not the only one shocked by the change. To say, I was disappointed is an understatement. I was mortified. I will not return. Every Mexican restaurant and taco stand now has better salsa.
