Came here after dinner because it says open from 6am to 11pm, I get there at 8pm and the doors are locked! The time should be changed, what a waste of gas!

A month ago, I purchased chicken breasts and took them home, immediately malleting and seasoning them. Prior to placing them in the air fryer, I discovered maggots crawling on the surface. The “sell by” date was listed as NINE days after the current date. I brought the chicken back to HEB explaining the situation, and Bobby (very understanding and accommodating) gave me a refund, saying they would send the chicken for testing, and he took my number saying that a manager would call me. A week later, I had not yet received a call. I went in and asked to speak to a manager. I was told that “the rest of the lot had already been sold, so there was nothing else to worry about. We sent it in for testing and they would call me with the results.” He asked if there was anything else, and I mentioned that I haven’t been able to eat chicken since, and I was offered a dry and unapologetic “yeah.” For one, I am very disappointed in the lack of follow through. I had always been impressed with HEB’s commitment to customer service. I completely understand that the supply chain that led this particular chicken into this store and (nearly) into my mouth is a complicated affair, and it is difficult to identify where any mishandling occurred. And, frankly, the results don’t matter: the chicken I was about to eat that night had maggots crawling inside and on the skin. There were probably maggots on other people’s chicken that Tuesday night, and they did not explicitly tell me that the rest of the inventory of that batch had been pulled, so that entire week supply of chicken could have been compromised. While the fact that this store’s supply was infected was not inherently its fault, it was (and still is) their responsibility to make every effort to ensure that food is handled safely and communicate that to any concerned customers. I just wanted assurance that any more meat or fish I purchased from this store would be safe (and hopefully fresh) for consumption, and that they were making proactive efforts to identify where errors occurred and were trying to correct them (not just selling off the rest of the rotten chicken and forgetting about it). They did not do this, so hence this review. I so desperately want to buy chicken from here. But after this complete lack of accountability and vigilance, followed by a pitiful lack of apology from the manager concerning the experience and inconvenience of having to drive the chicken back and trying to restore my faith in this store’s ability to address supply issues, I will be buying my fresh goods elsewhere. You broke my heart, HEB.

I’m incredibly disappointed in this HEB, not because the food is bad, (I mean moldy strawberries a few times but it happens no biggie) but in the bakery for cakes. Back in January I placed a specific order in person for a cake for my toddlers birthday, the next day I went to get it, and they looked at me confused, someone had to make the cake and I spent an hour waiting. I’m patient, I understand miscommunication happens in shift changes, it was a bummer but they still made the cake. Not even two months later, it’s my husbands birthday I go in person, place the order, receive a call the next morning that the image I chose is discontinued and I said okay, the girl on the phone SAID the baker would design something close to it, which I thought was cool, I’m super easy going no biggie, I get there to pick up my cake, to be told it was never made, and the girl looked at me like I was stupid when I said the girl on the phone said someone would hand design it. I left with no cake. Devastated. How does that happen twice? I’m not complaining to get something free, but to make someone aware of what’s going on in that part of the store. The cakes are very good, that’s why I choose heb, and yes I know I could’ve grabbed a premade one, but I asked for a specific filling, for a special reason and I’d rather spend my money where it’s valued and appreciated.

I hope that this is seen, but today I got a rose from a lady working in the area that makes the flower arrangements, the time is:10:45am and she had tattoos, she told me to smile and that life is beautiful. I was a bit taken aback because of how unexpected it was but I’m extremely grateful, I have been going through probably one of most difficult times of my life, it made me cry especially because I needed a sign that I will be okay and it made me feel better about getting through my day. I wish I looked at her name tag, and wasn’t in a rush, but I appreciate her so much, if you see this, thank you.
