Today was probably my 8th–10th visit, and I’ve always enjoyed the pizza. The two men behind the counter have consistently been friendly, and I’ve never had an issue serious enough to complain about—until now.
I brought a friend who had never been before, so she was understandably unfamiliar with the menu and specials. Instead of being helpful, the woman working (who identified herself as the owner) seemed visibly annoyed that my friend had questions. She spoke over her multiple times and responded in a condescending tone. When my friend asked if the salad was good, she replied, “Well, I’m the owner, so of course I’m going to say it’s good,” which came across as dismissive rather than helpful.
At one point, she said, “Oh, so I guess you’ve never been here before,” in a tone that felt unnecessarily patronizing. She also talked over me when I tried to clarify what she meant by a “combo,” and instead of explaining, made me feel like I was the one confused—when in reality, the communication was unclear.
When I ordered my pizza with one additional topping per slice, she responded, “Most people order both on each slice.” I replied that I knew. I prefer it this way so I can adjust the toppings myself. The comment felt unnecessary and dismissive rather than helpful.
After we finally placed our order, she said, “We finally got it done,” which, given the tone of the interaction, didn’t feel like humor—it felt rude.
On top of that, the pizza itself was noticeably different this time—much greasier than usual and not up to the quality I’ve experienced on past visits.
Interestingly, her demeanor shifted when she came to check on us later, becoming noticeably friendlier. We also observed that she did not speak to the customer after us in the same tone, which raised concerns for us about whether our treatment may have been influenced by bias.
It’s disappointing because I’ve enjoyed coming here in the past, but this experience left a bad impression and makes me reconsider returning.
