We visited the establishment yesterday and to put some context to my review, let me start off by saying we were the only customers in the restaurant, at the time we ordered. We were a family of 4 or 3 1/2 and was later advised they had a new cook in the kitchen.
The hostess/server was extremely pleasant and courteous throughout the night. However, everything goes downhill from there.
We originally ordered 4 meals (eg. chicken wings & fries, loaded fries w/chicken, chicken & waffles, and a kids chicken strip and fries) and an appetizer (e.g. mozzarella sticks).
With all that being said, the mozzarella sticks came out relatively quick but they weren't very hot and the cheese wasn't gooey as mozzarella sticks usually are.
Sometime after that, we received the chicken wings but no fries and the loaded fries with bacon. The loaded fries were sent back to be corrected and the chicken wasn't flavored with lemon pepper as requested. If they were, my daughter said they tasted plain. She couldn't taste any lemon pepper but other than that, they were okay. As for the loaded fries after the chicken was added or they were remade, my daughter thought they were okay with the exception of the cheese. She didn't really care for the cheese sauce. Also, the portion size of the fries did Not match the price. We expected there to be more fries. Then, shortly after that, we received the kid's chicken strips & fries, which was probably the best meal of the night.
While the meals that had been brought to the table were being eaten, they finally brought the fries that was supposed to go with the chicken wings & fries. However, my daughter was at the end of her wings. No worries though, she ate most of them and took the rest to go.
Meanwhile, I'm still waiting on my chicken & waffles, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting...You get the drift. After approximately 45 minutes to an hour (more or less), I still had Not received my meal. So, I requested to just make it to go. Then, since I was still waiting on my meal and I was curious about how the shrimp & grits tasted, so I asked to add it to my order.
To make matters worse, the shrimp & grits arrived at the table hot and ready to eat, but still No chicken & waffles. Another 10 - 15 minutes give or take had passed before the chicken & waffles were finally brought to the table. We paid, of course with a significant discount and left.
Unfortunately, the chicken of the chicken & waffles had very little meat and the meat that was on it was overcooked, dry and hard but the waffles were tasty. And, I didn't really care for the grits in the shrimp & grits, so I had to doctor them up to eat them. The shrimp was good though. This was not unfortunately a good first impression. It was very disappointing.
Nonetheless, as stated earlier, the hostess/server was very empathetic and apologetic throughout the night. She really attempted to try and make the experience better, but the frustration was already there and building. She received a generous tip because of Her Service to us.
So, ALL PROPS to her and this review in no way reflects on her but unfortunately when I'm in Dallas again, I will not be going back to Kings Cave.
