I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, it was a nightmare experience this past Saturday afternoon from start to finish. Despite the promising atmosphere, the execution, both in service and the kitchen, has a long way to go.
The biggest issue was the lack of communication. We waited 30 minutes just to have our order taken. Our server kept running off after dropping off drinks, promising she’d be right back, but then disappearing for long stretches. When she finally returned and casually asked if we were ready, I mentioned we had been ready for quite a while. To my surprise, she became very defensive, stating she was "managing the whole section" and "doing her best." While I genuinely felt bad that she was overwhelmed, it was frustrating to see a group of other employees in the next room standing around not helping. If the kitchen is fast (which it was), the bottleneck is clearly in the management of the floor.
For the premium prices charged, $70+ for 2 people, the food was mediocre at best:
• Fried Chicken Sliders: Overcooked, incredibly salty, and generally unsatisfying.
• Chocolate Chip Waffle: Tasted like a budget hotel breakfast or something I could whip up at home in five minutes.
• Avocado Toast: My girlfriend’s meal was fine, but very bland and average.
I will say that once the server realized I was on a tight schedule to get to Georgetown for Christmas shopping, she turned it around, but the damage was done. She was cordial, got the food out quickly, and let us tab out early to save time. I still tipped her fine because I know being understaffed is hard, but that doesn't excuse the lack of basic service standards.
Bottom Line: Between the defensive service, the high prices, and the hotel-level food, I won't be returning. They have a lot of internal work to do.
