If big chain Restaurants are going to take over our city can they at least be...good?
*Starting with the bad then the good at the end:
I only like a few things on their menu and on rare occasions. It's never my "go to" and I work right next to it. The service has had a lot of issues. Lots of inconsistency with quality control. Like black soggy lettuce. Witnessed poor sanitation practices. Example- I told management there's black pieces of something in their ice cubes from their machine. They saw it too. And I never saw an "out of order" sign the whole time I was there and it should have been instant. It was gross.
This current visit was the breaking point that got me to make this review. I stood at the counter for several minutes with nobody coming to me. I later remembered they had the kiosk but I ordered on my phone instead since they weren't coming up. Suggestion : if you are too busy to stay near the counter maybe put a sign up at the register directing customers to the kiosk. (Unless they're paying with cash)
Anyways when I sat down to order on the phone I saw other people also waiting with no help. 2 people even got tired of waiting and left. I was so tired of waiting I got tempted to just grab the cookie I wanted and sit down but I got my values and I wish Panera had more too. Or at least this location. I don't have much experience elsewhere. I mean overall their food isn't super great in quality so that'll be any of their locations. Just a few of their items hit a craving at times. So I put 3 stars under "food". Kitchen Sink Cookie satisfies my sweet tooth. Almost too much haha I struggle to finish it but it's pretty good. And their Autumn Squash soup that comes in the fall/winter is delicious. Probably super salty and sugary but it's pretty good on a cold day. And then their dark roast coffee isn't too bad usually. Especially when fresh. I like the bolder flavors so for some it may not taste great. Their other coffee drinks are not very good... I'd go anywhere else for that. I will comend some employees I've seen. I've witnessed some really kind and positive hard working employees here. But there is definitely some training issues or lack of resources/support for employees (maybe mixed with some burnout or laziness). Oh there's lots of seating here so that's cool!

Wow.. Their toasted bread tore my mouth apart. . Their coffee tasted like water, and had more grounds than liquid.. I had to pour itout. . something about chewing coffee flavored crunchy water.
But the cashier was nice

This is one of those franchises that started off amazing and now is just so-so. I remember when Panera first opened. I used to crave their food and probably had it at least once a week. Now, it's something I'll have when I'm really hungry and they are the closest option.
I chose to go in today simply because they were next door to the other business I was in. They are conveniently located in a small strip mall and there is usually no problem with parking. The store is clean and it's a lot easier with the self serve ordering.
I had the half sandwich and cup of soup. For the sandwich, I had the turkey. For starters, their bread tastes like it is only halfway cooked. The meat is just some processed turkey meat. Not fresh turkey. I don't recommend the turkey.
For soup, I had the cheddar broccoli. Again, there is no consistency. The soup used to have a very rich cheddar taste to it. But now it's just a weak taste of cheddar. I'm guessing there really isn't any actual cheddar but just a added flavor to a generic soup stock.
I had the baguette for the side and again, not what it used to be. For whatever reason, all the bread products seemed to be half baked. The baguette was like eating those half baked cookies. Sadly, the French baguette used to be something I really craved. But now when it is undercooked, it's just fair.
The restaurant was clean and the staff seemed nice. But I'm coming for the food and it was just satisfactory. Meaning if you are starving, it's probably not a bad option. But when I think if Panera when it first opened, this is not that place.

I was very disappointed. They offer French onion soup, no au jus for dipping the French Dip sandwich. The French onion soup had a tomato flavor, unlike any French onion soup I have ever had.
My friend took one bite of the chili and was done.

**The Panera Betrayal: A Descent Into Flavorless Despair**
I ordered the bacon mac and cheese at Panera, and what arrived can only be described as a crime against comfort food. The "bacon" was completely absent. Not hiding under the pasta, not mixed in, not even a memory of bacon. It simply did not exist. This was like ordering a cheeseburger and receiving a bun filled with disappointment.
The taste was somehow worse than the missing bacon. The cheese sauce had the consistency of elementary school paste and the flavor profile of cardboard that had been left in the rain. I've eaten mac and cheese in a hospital after surgery, while heavily medicated and unable to taste anything properly, and that was a Michelin-starred experience compared to this beige catastrophe.
The pasta was simultaneously mushy and hard, which I didn't know was physically possible. It was like they cooked it three days ago, forgot about it, found it again, and said "close enough." The whole dish had the temperature of something that gave up on life hours ago.
What really stung was the complete absence of effort or care from everyone working there. The staff moved like they were trapped in a time loop of despair. Nobody made eye contact. The kitchen seemed to be operating on the principle that food is just a substance you put in bowls, and whether it's edible is the customer's problem.
I paid $11.79 for what I can only describe as a bowl of regret. Panera used to be the place where you could get a decent meal when you didn't want fast food. Now it's just fast food that costs more and tastes worse. They've managed to turn themselves into the restaurant equivalent of a sad sigh.
Skip this place entirely. Your microwave and a $1 box of Kraft mac and cheese will give you a better meal and more self-respect.
