About

Burger JointRestaurantBar
Huey’s has been bringing Blues, Brews, & Burgers in Memphis since 1970. Perhaps the most unique characteristics of our locations are the graffiti walls, hometown feel and local live music. Our World Famous Huey burgers have been voted Best Burger in Memphis since 1984. Sundays at Huey’s are traditionally known for live music, including jazz, blues and even a little rock from local and regional groups. At the example of the late Thomas Boggs, Huey’s former owner, giving back to the community is one of our top priorities. We are proud to have donated many hours, monetary support and services for countless community organizations, schools, and nonprofits over the years.

When they messed up my order, they were quick to fix the problem.

I am not sure it’s commonplace at all Huey’s locations but the location on Poplar is consistent with the exceedinly long wait to get food on the table. Tonight it was over 45 minutes between the time we ordered and the time we received our food. Fortunately that’s what I expected. Of course my salmon plate was most likely sitting somewhere in the kitchen since it was no longer warm when it got to the table. It will be a while before I return—perhaps by then I will have forgotten a most unpleasent hour and fifteen minute experience

Huy's is very iconic in Memphis, Tennessee. I don't know one person that has not been there at least once in their lifetime, I have been here for exactly 6 years and always find myself as many restaurants and eateries that there are in Memphis, he is just satisfied My cravings for a good burger. With their season fries, I have never had a bad experience there. As far as inadequate food or service, they are fully maxed out as far as the patrons. That's not matter. What day of the week it is, you can always tell everybody goes to it.It's one of the more popular ones out of the 3 that I know of here in Memphis, it just works well for me.\nI'm a burger conasure

Very average in every way. Everything is essentially ala carte. Want a burger w fries ? Order a burger, then order the fries, for which you are charged separately. Burger was good, cheese dip was unmemorable, fries were standard WalMart steak fries. Burger, club sandwich, fries x 2, queso and chips, a Dr. Pepper and a water was $60 (including the $15 tip). Double Burger at Freddy’s is way better and comes with fries and a drink for about $12.50, no tip. Tops BBQ gives you burger, fries, drink for $11 incl tax. There is nothing special about Huey’s.

I want to preface this review by saying that we have been loyal patrons of Huey’s (other locations) for over 20 years and have generally had good experiences. Unfortunately, the Poplar Avenue location has disappointed us the last three times we’ve visited. The third time was not the charm, and it will definitely be our last. It’s especially disappointing because we live very close and can literally see this location from our backyard. We visited today around 11:25 a.m. in hopes of beating the lunch rush, and the experience was extremely frustrating. My husband and I ordered fried pickles, a club sandwich (ordered cold), onion rings, and a Philly cheesesteak. The appetizer came out in a reasonable amount of time, but our lunch took over 50 minutes to arrive. My husband mentioned that his sandwich arrived cold, so maybe it was sitting in the prep window for a long time. What made the situation worse was the complete lack of communication. We repeatedly heard vague comments like “I’m checking on your food,” “It will be right out,” and eventually, “My manager is handling it.” Handling what? There was never any explanation as to why our food was taking so long. We are very understanding people, but without any context, it’s hard not to feel ignored. To add to the frustration, a party of seven was seated after us, ordered mostly burgers, and received their food before we did. A four-top that arrived well after we were seated was also served before us. At that point, it felt like our order may have been forgotten or mishandled, but no one ever explained what went wrong. If a manager truly was “handling it,” I would have expected the manager to come to the table, explain the delay, and make some effort to correct the situation, whether that meant comping a soft drink or the appetizer. Instead, all we received was a brief apology with no explanation. Customer service feels like a lost art here. This is not a dig at our server. He was clearly busy and juggling many tables, and this feels more like a breakdown in communication and management than a server issue. I waited tables years ago, and I can confidently say this situation could have been handled much better. Communication is key, and even a simple explanation would have gone a long way. I understand that things happen in restaurants, but when they do, they need to be addressed and made right. Leaving customers sitting with little to no information for nearly an hour is unacceptable. Sadly, this experience has ensured we won’t be returning to this location.
