Huey’s has been bringing Blues, Brews, & Burgers in Memphis since 1970. Perhaps the most unique characteristics of our locations are the graffiti walls, hometown feel and local live music. Our World Famous Huey burgers have been voted Best Burger in Memphis since 1984. Sundays at Huey’s are traditionally known for live music, including jazz, blues and even a little rock from local and regional groups. At the example of the late Thomas Boggs, Huey’s former owner, giving back to the community is one of our top priorities. We are proud to have donated many hours, monetary support and services for countless community organizations, schools, and nonprofits over the years.
Customers generally praised the food, especially the burgers and wings, but there were complaints about cold or improperly prepared dishes.
Service Issues
Several reviews highlighted slow service and poor communication, particularly during busy times, leading to customer frustration.
Atmosphere
The restaurant is often described as having a great atmosphere, with many enjoying the vibe and decor, though some noted cleanliness issues.
Customer Loyalty
Many customers expressed loyalty to Huey's, citing long-term positive experiences, but some recent visits have led to disappointment.

I want to preface this review by saying that we have been loyal patrons of Huey’s (other locations) for over 20 years and have generally had good experiences. Unfortunately, the Poplar Avenue location has disappointed us the last three times we’ve visited. The third time was not the charm, and it will definitely be our last. It’s especially disappointing because we live very close and can literally see this location from our backyard.
We visited today around 11:25 a.m. in hopes of beating the lunch rush, and the experience was extremely frustrating. My husband and I ordered fried pickles, a club sandwich (ordered cold), onion rings, and a Philly cheesesteak. The appetizer came out in a reasonable amount of time, but our lunch took over 50 minutes to arrive. My husband mentioned that his sandwich arrived cold, so maybe it was sitting in the prep window for a long time.
What made the situation worse was the complete lack of communication. We repeatedly heard vague comments like “I’m checking on your food,” “It will be right out,” and eventually, “My manager is handling it.” Handling what? There was never any explanation as to why our food was taking so long. We are very understanding people, but without any context, it’s hard not to feel ignored.
To add to the frustration, a party of seven was seated after us, ordered mostly burgers, and received their food before we did. A four-top that arrived well after we were seated was also served before us. At that point, it felt like our order may have been forgotten or mishandled, but no one ever explained what went wrong.
If a manager truly was “handling it,” I would have expected the manager to come to the table, explain the delay, and make some effort to correct the situation, whether that meant comping a soft drink or the appetizer. Instead, all we received was a brief apology with no explanation. Customer service feels like a lost art here.
This is not a dig at our server. He was clearly busy and juggling many tables, and this feels more like a breakdown in communication and management than a server issue. I waited tables years ago, and I can confidently say this situation could have been handled much better. Communication is key, and even a simple explanation would have gone a long way.
I understand that things happen in restaurants, but when they do, they need to be addressed and made right. Leaving customers sitting with little to no information for nearly an hour is unacceptable. Sadly, this experience has ensured we won’t be returning to this location.

The Huey’s burger was delicious! The chicken Philly was great as well and their ranch was some of the best I’ve ever had. Service was quick and friendly. I’ll definitely return when I’m in Memphis again.

Have spent 10,000$ here in the last six months. Always great food and better service. Beer is freezing cold and cheap. Mixed drinks are delicious. Today after over 100 visits I accidentally had my ID sitting in the napkin garbage and it was brushed off the table. I came back 20 minutes later and was so apologetic and willing to dig through the garbage myself, The Tall older bartender found it in 10 seconds with no fuss at all. Absolutely love this place I’ll be back 1000 times!!!! You guys ROCK!!!!
