Bartender tiny was amazing! So nice! So accommodating :)
Thanks Tony!
We had an EXCELLENT first dinner in Charleston, sitting at the bar with Tony. Other reviews explain hit or miss service, but ours was a total hit. He explained all of the infused in-house drinks that they work hard to keep all natural and not crazy sweet. Our food was super flavorful and presented extremely well. Everyone went the extra mile. One server was nice enough to ask us what snack our dog would want and brought him a cup of cheese. Was a great way to spend the first night, portions/price was good, drinks were more fair than any other beach town. Brought leftovers home. I guess sit at the bar would be my recommendation!

Stopped in today for a late lunch with my girlfriend. We were seated and able to order starters quickly. We ordered chips and salsa, tuna poke tostadas, Dr Pepper, and water. I only asked that there be no cucumber on the poke tostadas.
The chips were good and fresh (though I wrongly assumed the $5 chips and salsa would be complimentary considering this is a Mexican restaurant). The poke tostadas came out without avocado as described and still had cucumbers. I picked them out and kept going.
I didn’t get a refill on my drink until my girlfriend asked when they were dropping off food, it had been siting empty for 15 minutes. My girlfriend got the Mexi-Cali burrito with rice on the side. The rice was plain white rice. The burrito was bland, especially the chicken. It looked seasoned on the outside but was disappointing to actually eat. The fries inside were hard, cold, and did not seem fresh at all. The queso on top definitely seemed like it was from a jar.
I got the quesabirria quesadilla, and it was okay. The meat had good flavor but did not seem slow-cooked and tender. The dipping sauce didn’t seem authentic and felt like it was cooked for a short amount of time instead of having deep, rich, slow-cooked flavors. The blended vegetables were still identifiable and not cooked down into a smooth sauce like I would expect.
Overall, I left disappointed considering the previous reviews.
We recently visited Mex 1 on a busy Saturday night. The wait for an outside table was about 45 minutes, so we opted to wait.
The experience was a bit of a mixed bag. I’ll echo many of the comments made by others. The food was great. However, the service was just okay. The host and server seemed indifferent, and we didn’t feel overly welcomed or anything. They didn’t seem excited to be working.
While we wish the service had been better, the overall positive experience was largely due to the food. We’ll be back.

We had a reservation, that we ended up being 15 minutes “late” for because it took the hostess over 20 minutes to even acknowledge our existence. Proceeded to then wait over an hour and a half for a burrito the size of my pinky, and white rice that tasted like they must have cooked it in the ocean it was so salty. By the time we got our “food” we were starving, but I would have rather eaten the drink coaster than what was on the plate. While the service and the food were appalling, the bathrooms were the icky cherry on top with no toilet paper (other than what was on the ground and overflowing from the trash cans), no paper towel, and the cleanliness of a college bar after 2am. I would have asked to speak to someone who was running the place, but clearly no one was. I’m an extremely laid back person that typically doesn’t write a review unless it’s to sing someone’s praise, but I wish someone could have saved me from my experience, so hopefully this review can save someone else from having the same fate. If you’re thinking of going, don’t.
