Islander 71 is a nod to the easy going beach life of the Isle of Palms in the 1970’s. Taking you back to when kids rode bikes freely, Dads drank beer on the beach and Moms sunbathed to a golden brown. Afternoons were spent crabbing on the dock, or catching Reds at flood tide. Dinner was a gathering time for friends and family to share succulent seafood and fruity drinks. Laughter and good vibes were in the air as the sky turned into a mango sunset. Welcome to Islander 71.

If you’re happy with plastic cups, styrofoam and TVs everywhere, this is the place for you. I’d think that Isle of Palms could do better than this place and the one beside it.

We’ve tried Islander 71 Fish House and Raw Bar several times since it opened because the location on the Intracoastal is beautiful—but every visit has been disappointing.
The food has been consistently poor. On one visit, I ordered the seafood pasta and the shrimp came out translucent and undercooked, and the “sauce” was essentially clear, unseasoned liquid. Experiences like that made it hard to trust ordering from the kitchen, and we found ourselves sticking to canned drinks.
Service has also been slow, even when it didn’t seem particularly busy.
Our most recent visit was the final straw. We were seated outside and the music was so loud that conversation was impossible—you had to raise your voice just to be heard. Multiple tables were visibly uncomfortable. We politely asked if it could be turned down and were told management declined.
We paid for our drinks and appetizers and left early.
It’s frustrating because this is one of the best waterfront locations around, but the overall experience simply doesn’t live up to it. Right now, the location is the only thing working in its favor.

Had a sandwich and some oysters, and they were both good. But sitting outside the menu is limited. So, anything that took much effort was not experienced. Service was great to start, but kind of tapered off as they became busier, I guess that means not enough employees. Place was loud as all get out from the opening bell....and I was OUTSIDE! Anyway, could be great if you're into that kind of thing. Definitely not a ,"relaxing" beverage kind of place. But for it's niche it's great.
