Located on Charleston’s Upper King Street, Indaco (Italian for “indigo”) serves rustic Italian cuisine. Wood-fired pizzas, hand-crafted pastas, housemade salami and cured sausages fill the restaurant’s menu which can be enjoyed family-style or a la carte. With community tables, an open kitchen, and a comfortable atmosphere, Indaco can accommodate 100 guests for a casual night of food and drinks. The wine list is focused on affordable Italian varietals, the Negroni cocktail is on tap, and the fresh sodas are made in-house.
The massive wooden doors on Upper King Street are your first indication that Indaco is different from the typical Charleston restaurant. Rustic details continue inside with butcherblock tables, lime-wash walls, and white brick. An open kitchen with nearby community tables lets interested diners keep an eye on the action inside the kitchen. Outside, a patio puts you streetside to watch Upper King Street’s vibrant nightlife scene.
We would first like to thank the chef and the entire team for this truly remarkable dining experience. From our table, we had the opportunity to watch them work, and it was a real pleasure—so much passion, dedication, and genuine commitment in every gesture. Seeing an open kitchen with such an engaged team, and then receiving dishes of this quality, makes the experience even more exceptional.
We were truly impressed. The seasoning was perfectly balanced: flavorful, refined dishes with a level of precision and harmony that clearly reflects true craftsmanship. Each plate had its own identity, and you could feel the meticulous work behind achieving such perfect balance.
A special thank you as well to our server, Ashley, who was simply outstanding. Her kindness, attentiveness, and genuine care are rare and deeply appreciated.
The guest is truly at the heart of the experience.
Special mention for the pasta, which was absolutely delicious. The agnolotti, in particular, were exceptional—a true favorite.
We highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back. Thanks so much.

Fabulous restaurant with cozy setting, excellent service, and the most fantastic pasta I’ve had in years.
My husband and I were visiting Charleston and had already had some very good dishes at some very good restaurants. But by far the best experience we had was at Indaco. The atmosphere was cozy, inviting, and relaxing. Our server Alex was perfect, attentive, and friendly and the other supporting staff were all professional and efficient.
For dinner my husband had a wonderful wood fire cooked Margherita pizza that I also tried and it was absolutely delicious. But I will have to come back to Charleston if only for the pasta dish I had. I had the Agnolotti pasta that I paired with a lovely Pinot Bianco. The pasta which the ingredients were listed as roasted sweet potato, ricotta, pecan ragu, pecorino, and aged balsamic had the perfect blend of taste and textures. Not since a trip to Boston many years ago had I had a pasta so unique and so delectable.
Our evening dining at Indaco was the perfect dining experience.

Very disappointing. Had eaten here before and loved it. This time wait staff was uninterested and unhelpful. Noise level very high. A very mediocre experience and such a let down for what was a great restaurant.

First, they did not make me feel bad at all about having dietary restrictions. They were very accommodating of needing to eat gluten free and went so far as to pan fry the potatoes I ordered so they wouldn’t have cross contact in the fryer.
They make their own gluten free dough. I appreciate the attempt whether or not it’s good—it’s good here though. Really good. This pizza made me not despair at having to be gluten free.
So far, I have not had any issues with cross contact and symptoms. I will update if that changes. (Celiac may want to be careful here since it’s the same oven for pizza but gluten sensitive folks are probably okay!)
