I’ve always liked coming here, but the new “laptop zone” policy is frustrating. While I waited for my colleagues to join me, I took my laptop out and within minutes a staff member came up to me and asked me to close it. I had explained I was waiting for people, but she still insisted. Meanwhile, several people were sitting in the limited laptop-designated area with no laptops at all, and nothing was said to them. The inconsistency and the way the policy is enforced feels unwelcoming and unnecessarily strict. Great coffee, but the new rules make it a lot less enjoyable to visit.

Nice atmosphere…though you can’t sit just anywhere if you have a laptop, so if they are full in those spots but have seating elsewhere…oh well you have to leave even though you got food and a drink so now you have to eat and drink in your car or on the go after ordering; meanwhile someone else without a laptop can have a seat and enjoy without multitasking. I understand wanting to have more customers since maybe people on laptops can stick around longer…but maybe set time limits for everyone on the WiFi or have a better disclaimer before all this happens. She WAS nice about it, but still made an awkward situation to have to get up and go with everything like I was some kind of mooch. The chair I was at had a broken back and the AC was turned on full blast, so it was a little chilly too. First time there, and won’t be back sadly.

I have loved this place for years. I work remotely and it has always been one of my favorite spots. Recently we were told we had to pack up because most of the tables are now a laptop free zone. The only area where laptops are allowed the back wall was completely full, so we had nowhere else to sit and had to leave. Super disappointing and honestly pretty weird. I have never seen anything like that before and unfortunately we will not be back. It feels like a bad move on their part and I think they will lose a lot of business because of it.

I loved going to mercantile and mash to study, get a coffee and a delicious bite to eat. It’s not the most convenient spot, I typically need to drive there. The other day I got asked to get up from my seat, as it was newly labeled an “unplug” zone. I did so respectfully and decided to come back today to eat with my friends. As we were eating we saw many individuals sitting with their computer in an “unplug” zone and not asked to move. I’m not wishing upon anybody to be asked to move like I did, more questioning how it’s fair to remove some individuals and not others. If you’re going to enforce a rule that disrupts others, you have to apply to all. It’s not fair and I don’t appreciate the customer service here anymore and probably will not be back.

As mentioned in other comments, the designated laptop zone really kills the vibe. I just witnessed three young college students get asked to move because their table wasn’t in the “laptop zone.” While I understand the need to prioritize new dine-in customers, there were no guests waiting to be seated, and several tables in the dine in were still open. It felt unfair to ask them to move, they were paying customers who had just purchased their coffees and sat down for only a few minutes. They ended up leaving the coffee shop as there were no other "laptop" spots open. Seems a shame to treat customers that are most likely to come back in that manner.
