Located on Charleston’s Upper King Street, Indaco (Italian for “indigo”) serves rustic Italian cuisine. Wood-fired pizzas, hand-crafted pastas, housemade salami and cured sausages fill the restaurant’s menu which can be enjoyed family-style or a la carte. With community tables, an open kitchen, and a comfortable atmosphere, Indaco can accommodate 100 guests for a casual night of food and drinks. The wine list is focused on affordable Italian varietals, the Negroni cocktail is on tap, and the fresh sodas are made in-house.
The massive wooden doors on Upper King Street are your first indication that Indaco is different from the typical Charleston restaurant. Rustic details continue inside with butcherblock tables, lime-wash walls, and white brick. An open kitchen with nearby community tables lets interested diners keep an eye on the action inside the kitchen. Outside, a patio puts you streetside to watch Upper King Street’s vibrant nightlife scene.

The food was delicious! High quality food that will definitely have us coming back.
Brittany was our server and she was phenomenal. She was well versed in the menu and explained it well. Anything we needed she was on top of. So glad we found this place. A definite visit whenever we come to Charleston!

Blown away doesn’t begin to cover it. We visited Indaco Charleston for a birthday dinner as out-of-town guests. From the moment we walked in to the goodbyes we received on our way out the door—Indaco was the perfect choice. The meatballs were delicious (the red sauce may have been the star), the spicy soppresatta pizza was salty and sweet and crunchy and just the right hint of spicy. We had the tagliatelle which is a nice homage to a carbonara and, upon recommendation from our incredible server, the mushroom capelletti—a dish that had a mushroom hater scraping the dregs of the plate! The service was impeccable, the ambiance was cozy and cheerful, and the food was truly something to write home about. We hope to visit Indaco again on future trips!

Ordered the lasagna for Christmas. It was terrible. It was greasy and very sloppy. No form to it at all. It was embarrassing to serve. Additionally, no response to any emails, even when trying to place the order.

Upfront, I must say that we were unable to enjoy the food - which looked delicious!
I am leaving a review nonetheless, because we had an AMAZING positive experience with the hostess. You see, we were a party of six without a reservation coming in on a Thursday evening. They were not packed but full. And this young lady diligently worked and worked - all with a smile and communication- to find us a table, to explore options at the bar, to even look at when we might get a reservation. Unfortunately, our group was hungry, and in the end we opted for a quicker – though nowhere as delicious, I am sure - meal.
Professional hostesses, willing to deal with the ‘jigsaw puzzle’ of tables and reservations, slow diners and servers are nothing short of ‘Tetris artists’ !
And hostesses who remain polite and cheerful under stress are especially hard to find.
She was both!! We are planning to come back and enjoy this place again.
