Located on Charleston’s Upper King Street, Indaco (Italian for “indigo”) serves rustic Italian cuisine. Wood-fired pizzas, hand-crafted pastas, housemade salami and cured sausages fill the restaurant’s menu which can be enjoyed family-style or a la carte. With community tables, an open kitchen, and a comfortable atmosphere, Indaco can accommodate 100 guests for a casual night of food and drinks. The wine list is focused on affordable Italian varietals, the Negroni cocktail is on tap, and the fresh sodas are made in-house.
The massive wooden doors on Upper King Street are your first indication that Indaco is different from the typical Charleston restaurant. Rustic details continue inside with butcherblock tables, lime-wash walls, and white brick. An open kitchen with nearby community tables lets interested diners keep an eye on the action inside the kitchen. Outside, a patio puts you streetside to watch Upper King Street’s vibrant nightlife scene.

Love the atmosphere here. Takes you out of the city into a cute restaurant. The ambience is great and service was welcoming. Good came fast even though they were busy. Pictured are the Brussel sprouts which were surprisingly a little spicy to me but otherwise very good. We also got the pizza Bianca which I think would have been elevated by some sort of drizzle on top but very good!

My most recent visit to Indaco reminded me that I have not held this longtime gem in nearly high enough regard. They may not be the newest kid on the block filling everyone’s Instagram feed, but maybe that’s because they’re too busy serving consistently excellent food instead of chasing influencer chaos.Every single time I’ve dined here, it’s been awesome.
This visit was a shared feast featuring their warm, pillowy house focaccia, perfectly tender polpette, and—my forever order—the squid ink pasta. I swear they always have some variation of it on the menu, and I get it every single time without fail. We also enjoyed the roasted sweet potato, ricotta, and balsamic agnolotti, along with the Amatriciana pizza, which was the ideal balance of smoky, savory, and satisfying.
And for dessert, I made the only reasonable decision available to me: ordering the gelato trio because choosing just one felt emotionally irresponsible.. No regrets—each flavor was rich, creamy, and the perfect finish to the meal.
They rotate their menu seasonally but seem to retain a few beloved staples, and the pricing remains refreshingly reasonable compared to many of the very expensive options nearby.
Indaco, I’m sorry for ever taking you for granted. You’re officially in my regular rotation now.

If you find yourself downtown craving authentic Italian food and amazing cocktails, make sure to book a table here, but ask for Alex! He is the vibe at Indaco. Somehow, he reads the table perfectly, keeps the drinks flowing, and always knows just what to recommend to make the experience even better. He has a way of making every visit special. It has become a tradition for my husband and me to celebrate our anniversary here now for 5 years in a row! Thank you, Alex, for setting the tone and making every night memorable!

We were visiting from Texas and stumbled upon Indaco while window shopping. I’m so glad we didn’t keep walking!! We had the pizza, the pasta, the wine, and desserts! Our waitress Ashley was spot-on with recommendations and even special ordered on our behalf! It was all SO good that we went back for brunch the next day before flying home! The food is OUTSTANDING! Ashley will be forever etched into the mind of my 11 year old daughter. And we WILL be back for more on our next visit! I can’t even pick out the one dish to try. Order 5 or 6 and share them with everybody at the table! My 11 year old will be dreaming about the meatballs for many days to come!!

Not what it used to be. I have been very satisfied with the restaurant in the past. I had guests from CA and this was supposed to be a real treat. Off night for our table??? Service was ok. Food was ok. Not at all a memorable experience. I was told chef would be able to prepare something vegan. I got plate of pasta. Pasta with red sauce and a drop of olive oil. That's it. My friend ordered ravioli. She got 6- 8 tiny raviolis on her plate. There was barely any sauce. My other friend did not eat her food at all it was way too garlicky for her. Waiter did not offer anything else to her. Bread was ordered for the table, friend who ate nothing, came in a block and awkward to cut and serve to each other. Absolutely nothing special. If I was not a guest I would have made a comment to the waiter.
