Beautiful historic restaurant that has been a staple here in Providence, Rhode Island overlooking the water. Food is always unique and delicious with a modern twist, although can be pricey but the view makes up for it.

What a disappointment… waterman has potential to be fabulous with a great little vibe but not tonight. Celebrating an anniversary with beef stroganoff that barely had discernible beef, and fennel salad with no fennel and blood orange cosmos served with grapefruit. All would have been ok if service on par - note to self DoNot sit upstairs .

My boyfriend called this restaurant two weeks prior to our reservation date explaining it was my birthday and he wanted to make it special. (Our reservation was for a Wednesday night). He asked for special seating and arrangements to make this night special for me. He drove over an hour and a half to pick me up at my college and bring me out to dinner at the Waterman Grille. We arrived at 6:50 for a 7 o’clock reservation we were told to wait and that our table wasn’t ready yet. That is completely fine. We sat at the bar until it turns 7 o’clock. We were told our table still wasn’t ready so we continued to wait. Our reservation was only for the two of us. Two separate parties walked in and got seated both being parties of two. At 7:25 we went to the host stand and asked how long we would have to wait for our table. The hostess said as long as it takes for the table to finish up. My boyfriend explained it’s my birthday and that he called two weeks ago and now we’ve waited 30 minutes for a table that we had reserved. I never write reviews, but this was some of the worst service I’ve ever seen in my life if you get a reservation here, make sure you’re willing to wait. The bartender was very kind and we could’ve sat at the bar and ordered food, but the most frustrating part is that we called for a reservation and now we’re being treated like a walk-in. To see those two other parties get sat before us was very frustrating because we were there 10 minutes before them and had a reservation. Seeing that those parties were older, we didn’t mention that it was a problem. We are very unproblematic people. We didn’t mention to the host that we are frustrated that they got seated before us even though we should’ve. The hostess was not helpful and told her she could not give us a wait time and that I could take as long as they need. This doesn’t seem like great service to me. The food looked great. Wish I could’ve tried it on my birthday.

Tina, Alivia, and the whole team at Waterman Grille are phenomenal! We had our wedding ceremony and reception there and they were incredibly flexible, accommodating, and helpful throughout the whole process. Every time we had questions or a complication arose, we were always able to resolve it quickly and without any drama. Alivia especially brought such a calm, positive energy to every part of the planning process and was such a huge help coordinating all our vendors.
The Waterman team really kept us in charge and made it “our” event while handling all the logistics and minute-to-minute decisions that would have kept us from enjoying it. Of course the food was all excellent as well; we chose Waterman in large part due to our love of the restaurant, and the event kitchen met all of our expectations as well.
We don’t really host or plan many events but it was such a good experience that we’re already trying to think of opportunities to host another. Can’t recommend Waterman Grille highly enough.
