We’re visiting Providence, RI for a couple of days, and one of our friends recommended this restaurant. We were hoping for a nice dinner during our trip, but it turned out to be a total disappointment. The service was horrible, and the food was below average. Our server was very rude and started rushing us even before we had a chance to order, and this was around 6:30 PM.
I’m from the same industry, and I would never come back to this place again. There are plenty of other great restaurants in Providence where you’ll have a much better dining experience.

Easily 5 star on every aspect. If there was a score for location, view, or team…we would have given them a 5 star as well. We had a superb scallops dish and an equally outstanding salmon main. The only problem we had - which is an excellent problem to have - is just how hard it was to make a selection from a breathtaking menu. Oh yes…I nearly forgot…there is a great variation of seating options all year round.

Went there twice. Our first night was a Monday and surprisingly it was super busy. We did not have a reservation but they were able to seat us. We were seated in the screened in outdoor seating area. It was nice. I ordered the lobster bisque. It was ok, I had an amazing lobster bisque in Maine earlier that day, this did not compare. I ordered the lobster and shrimp fritter. The aioli it came with was great. But the fritter itself was just ok. My son ordered a burger which he was happy with. He said he did not like the fries. We came back again Tuesday night because I had to try the stuffed lobster. It was amazing! I could not even finish the two sides I had. We also received bread on the second night but not on the first night. My son ordered the fish and chips and they come really large. He enjoyed the fish and he is not a fish person. We were seated in another section of the restaurant. They had turned down the lights and it was a bit dark.

My wife and I went to dinner here and it was all nearly perfect. Everything we had was delicious except for the steak. The chef overly charred it and it had a major burnt flavor across the entire steak. It was unfortunate since we got the baked lobster and steak for two, but the lobster was really good! I also discovered I really like Bay scallops! We had a charcuterie board that was awesome and the dessert was amazing.
I want to talk about the service because I don't think I've ever seen a restaurant run so seemlessly. When we first arrived it wasn't too busy but as we sat the place really picked up. We were seated in a way we could observe most of the dining room. The servers, managers and busers (I think that's what they are called) worked as if they rehearsed a dance together. Our server Emily (I think) had several tables and she made it a point to check on everyone multiple times and we never had to request anything (outside the normal ordering). All of the team members backed each other up and helped clear tables quickly in order to get the next guests seated. It was highly impressive. Bravo to everyone on the team.
Thank you for the wonderful experience. If we go back to RI, we will definitely visit again.

Absolutely incredible experience! We arrived on our first night here to Newport, and everyone recommended dinner at The Mooring. We had reservations for a table, but we ended up having so much fun at the bar with bartenders Nick and Matt (and patron Jim) that we decided to hang with them for the evening. From Nick’s perfect cocktails (salted caramel espresso martini and of course a classic dirty) to Matt recommending local stops to see in town on our stay, we had a great experience - not like some highfalutin place that misses out on an authentic experience. And the food recommendations were fantastic! 10/10 for us, and so much so we may go by again before our stay is over. From Nashville with love - Amanda & Jason.
