  I really wanted to enjoy this place. I had seen all the hype and reviews, which is why I selected this over others given by one night stay. Service was fine, food was truly 3/5. They called me ahead of time to confirm my arrival as well as dress code. They repeated specific dress code requirements. However, upon arrival, it did not appear that they do indeed follow a strict dress code. So feel free to wear a crop top and jeans! The view is spectacular….if you can see it. I was greeted by what I think was the GM, he didn’t stick around to hear my feedback, specifically I would have liked to share I could have used a knife to cut the broccolini rather than a butter knife.

  Have dined here twice and both times the food was delicious, but tonight the experience was truly noteworthy. I brought my mom for a special dinner for her birthday; she is sensitive to onion and garlic in food, so she rarely is able to eat out. The folks at Altius prepared an absolutely superb meal without onion or garlic, including two dreamy fish dishes cooked specially for our needs. My mom was floored and delighted by how accommodating chef and team were, in addition to the overall beautiful atmosphere, attentive service, and the many fine-dining touches to our meal. Wonderful night and would definitely entrust Altius for dinner for a special occasion or special person.

  Let me start by saying the food was wonderful, well at least the first three courses, the 4th is a bit of a blur. Made a reservation for 745 on a Thursday night which is "date night" for my wife and me. We were seated right away, and the restaurant was not crowded. Server came over and we ordered a drink. We explained to him that we like to pace our dinner and have a pause between courses. He said he understood, but clearly, he didn't. We started with the amuse which was great. Then we had our first course, oysters and they were spectacular. Wish I had ordered more. He then asked for the rest of our order, and we agreed to give it to him if it were paced. Oysters are light so when the next course arrived quickly no issue. But then he started serving the next course almost immediately after the previous. When we got to the entree, they were clearing the salad course and putting down the entree. This is simply unacceptable in fine dining. It was like speed dating the courses despite our plea to have a nice dinner. In my opinion, there were only 3 tables left when we were served the entree and the kitchen and staff all wanted to go home. That's not on me. If you want the restaurant closed by 9, don't take a 7:45 reservation. We were basically shown the door before 9:00. Dinner was $260, my ubers so I could have cocktails another $60. So date night was $320 and we were home at 9:15. I suspect you go there on a weekend they don't pull this move. But book a later reservation on a weeknight, and be prepared to be rushed through. Very disappointing experience.

  Altius is a high-level of fine dining establishment in Pittsburgh, in quality of food, service, and atmosphere. This restaurant could compete in San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Manhattan, DC, Atlanta, etc. A window seat provides the perfect view of Pittsburgh, but the food itself, the curated wine menu brought table side by their in house sommelier, and the attentiveness of the kitchen staff and servers will easily distract you from the steel city skyline. Do yourself a favor and go to Altius the next time you have something special to celebrate.

  I wasn’t going to write a review, but since this restaurant decided to cancel my reservation on the Open Table app AFTER we dinned and completed our reservation, I felt it was necessary. Why did they cancel our reservation after dinning? Because they were afraid of getting a bad review from us. Literally the only good thing about this place is the view and valet parking. Food- overpriced undersized crap Cocktails- disgusting Waitress- very unfriendly and unprofessional Atmosphere- loud and chaotic They want to act high class while following no dress code. Men in hoodies and hats and women with ripped jeans and t-shirts. This wasn’t our first time here but it sure was our last. Luckily there’s other restaurants in the area and our 15th anniversary was saved.
