I recently ordered from Hana Hawaiian BBQ while on a trip to Philadelphia and was afraid that it was going to be some knock-off version of Hawaiian cuisine. My family was super excited to eat authentic Hawaiian food, so far from home. When our travel plans were delayed, the restaurant was understanding and quick to reschedule our order. Family members that live in the area were stoked to have a meal from home, given that they had not yet discovered the restaurant. Before I left, friends made me order again, so that they could remember the platters that they liked the most. The food was perfect. The ambiance was warm and welcoming. Staff was friendly. This is a gem to have found. Mahalo piha e Hana Hawaiian BBQ!

I ordered salt and pepper shrimp wanting to try it. I’ve never had fried shrimp with the shell still on. Breaded, seasoned and fried with the shell on. What seasoning am I supposed to taste if everything is on the shell. I enjoyed the fries and the macaroni salad were good but the entree was a problem. The staff was pleasant and loved the atmosphere was nice. I’m very disappointed with the shrimp.

I was traveling from Hana to visit relatives in Philadelphia and was sad that I could not bring fresh food from from home. So I went online to find something relative to share with the family, and found this gem located in my stomping grounds. The food was authentic and my Philly side of the family enjoyed every bite, citing the authentic flavors that are unique to Hana. Now that the secret is out, I believe that my family will be ordering from here every time they miss home. Mahalo piha, Hana Hawaiian!! Eo!!

I had an okay experience here. The interior is clean, welcoming, and has a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a newer establishment, and everything looked and felt well-kept.
I ordered the beef, and it was tender but mediocre flavor. The mac salad stood out to me personally though — I like their take on it. Everything tasted freshly cooked. I also tried the passion fruit tea and the strawberry fruit tea — very refreshing. I felt like they could offer a few more pieces of broccoli only got about 2 or 3 😒
Another thing that caught me off guard was that all food is served in takeout containers with plastic utensils, even when dining in. The utensils were a bit flimsy, which felt slightly out of place given how new and polished everything else seemed.
Overall, the food didn’t blow me away but it was simple and satisfying. I might return for their drinks but not so much the food.

I kept seeing this place all over social media with people raving about it, so I figured I had to try it for myself. I ordered the mixed platter with spicy chicken, short ribs, and another beef option. It came with rice, broccoli, cabbage under the meat, a stuffed crouton, and macaroni salad. Even though the place didn’t seem busy, it still took about 26 minutes to get my food.
When the plate came out, I’ll give credit where it’s due — the presentation looked amazing. Unfortunately, the taste didn’t match the looks at all. The macaroni salad had such an overwhelming mayo flavor that it completely ruined it for me — 1 out of 10. The spicy chicken was smothered in an overpowering sauce where I could barely tell what it was supposed to taste like — another 1 out of 10. The short ribs and the other beef were just bland and forgettable, both easily a 1 out of 10 as well.
I honestly don’t understand the hype around this place. I really wanted to enjoy it, but the food didn’t live up to expectations. Great presentation can’t make up for disappointing flavor. Sadly, this was a letdown, and I wouldn’t come back again.
