- CYChristina YeaneyApr 13, 20261.0I picked up lunch from Five Guys for myself and a colleague, and unfortunately it turned into a really unpleasant experience. About halfway through my burger, I noticed the center was pink and mushy. Almost immediately after, I became sick. While I was in the bathroom, my friend called the store to let them know what had happened. They did comp my burger, which I appreciated at the time. However, about an hour later, my friend also became violently ill after eating her meal. I understand that mistakes can happen, but this clearly was not an isolated issue. When I called back to let them know that both of us had gotten sick, the response I received was very dismissive — essentially, “and?.. they comped your burger.” That lack of concern was honestly more frustrating than the initial issue. Being expected to feel grateful for only part of the meal being comped, when both of us got sick from the food, felt very inadequate. I hope they take situations like this more seriously in the future, both in terms of food safety and customer service.

Serving peanuts for free began as a way for people to pass the time while they waited for us to cook up their meals (way back in the day, before smartphones). It was such a hit, and has become such a Five Guys tradition, that we keep our stores stocked with peanuts to this day.

Leftover fries are excellent reheated in the oven (or Air Fryer). According to Chad Murrell, one of the Five Guys, just pop them in a 350-degree oven for about 10-15 minutes.
