I tried Wingstop last night and ordered the 40-piece group pack for my family. Unfortunately, the experience was unacceptable from start to finish.
When I arrived to pick up the order, the first thing I noticed was the condition of the kitchen area, which is fully visible from the register. There was trash on the floor, including vegetables, chicken wings, and fries. This immediately made me question whether I had made a mistake coming here, and it did not inspire confidence in the cleanliness or food handling practices.
The order itself was also incorrect. The bag only contained three boxes, so I asked the employee at the counter if everything was included. She assured me it was, explaining that the wings were combined into two containers and the fries were in the third. When I got home and opened the boxes, each container had only 10 wings. We received 30 wings total instead of the 40 we paid for, and the cheese fries were completely missing.
The food quality was extremely disappointing. I like my wings crispy and always order them well done, but there was no option to specify this in the online ordering app. You simply get what you get. The wings we received were extremely soggy, rubbery, and greasy. In fact, they were so bad that we ended up throwing almost all of them away.
The only item that tasted acceptable were the carrots and celery. Even then, the portion size was completely out of proportion to the amount of wings ordered. For a 40-piece family pack at this price point, the quantity of vegetables should have been significantly higher. We received what I would estimate as 2 stalks of celery and 2 large carrots with our 40 wings.
I paid for the order online. The total came to $60.41, and the system prompted me to add an optional tip. I'm always eager to support food service workers, so I entered $10, bringing the total to $70.41. For that price, the quality and overall experience were completely unacceptable, especially when compared to local Erie establishments that offer far better wings and service for nearly half the cost.
I did call the store and spoke with the manager, who offered to make it right if I came back. However, given the poor quality of the food we already received, I had no interest in returning for more of the same.
As a local business owner and proud supporter of Erie’s hardworking restaurant community, I strongly encourage others to support the local establishments you know and trust rather than large chains moving into our area. I regret giving this one a try, and I will not be returning.
