  My mom has been a major Jim & Patty’s fan since the 90s, and it was a big deal to her when she saw they were closing. She lives in Illinois, but since I’m still here she bought me a gift card for the holidays to try and support the reopening. Unfortunately she sent it to the wrong email address, and there was an arduous back-and-forth over getting it straightened out with the third party gift card vendor. All of this to say- even if Jim & Patty’s (formerly Coffee People) has changed through the years, one thing has not budged: they hire GOOD people. The staff were SO patient and supportive with my mom calling a ton trying to get this issue sorted, and by the end of it they doubled the gift card amount in appreciation of the difficulty. A major shoutout to Ash and the team, who were kind and supportive to an undying fan trying to pass on the coffee community love to the next generation. Jim & Patty’s has and always will understand that we don’t just come for the excellent coffee- it’s about the people, the community, the atmosphere, and the reminder to pause, get a fresh perspective, add a little caffeine, and pour oneself back into the day. Thank you all, you’re the best! Ps major gratitude for your gluten free items!

  They have good customer service and this has no reflection on the employees doing their job, it’s general feedback on how the company operates… one of the doors was locked when I tried going in so it’s not wheelchair friendly. I ordered a toasted bagel with butter and avocado today. I took my order to go and left upon receiving my food. When I was ready to eat it I realized that the bagel was wrapped in foil, and then slipped into a paper bag. The avocado was in a separate cup container with a lid. I unwrapped my bagel which looked buttery because the outside was shiny and I could see it dripping and went to take a bite thinking it was buttered and because I wasn’t given a knife I’d have to dip my bagel into the avocado, I actually bit into a foil package of butter that was placed inside the middle of my toasted bagel… I spit out the bite and looked and there were two butter packets sitting inside my bagel still wrapped up that had been melting out of the packaging. Definitely could have been more harmful to me than it was… I don’t see this as a common practice at other coffee shops or cafes and typically your food is prepared for you. I was not given a knife and I didn’t know I was going to need to prepare my food. I gave up and chose not to eat. I personally wouldn’t recommend going there and I don’t plan on going back. Also, seems like a huge waste of resources? Why the foil and bag and individually packaged butters and avocado in a separate container to then need a knife? Huge waste of money, safety issues obviously and so much trash produced from that… could have just buttered my bagel and smeared the avocado, placed it in the paper bag that I can recycle and no issues… being you’re in a city that cares deeply about our sustainability, please look at this way of operating.
