It was our first trip to Portland. We made reservations at Jake’s Grill for dinner. We were seated right away. The food tasted good and the cocktail was great. Unfortunately the service was disappointing. We felt ignored most of the time. Overall I gave the restaurant a 4 star rating.

Enjoyed our visit especially the atmosphere and service. Food was good but there are definitely other restaurants in this incredible city of Portland to have a more layered and creative culinary experience.

I will be avoiding this place at all costs after the “service” I received.
We had a reservation for Valentine’s Day. After being seated, about 10 minutes later someone took our drink order. They did not introduce themselves, indicate whether or not they were our server, or even say hello. Just “what do you want”.
After that we were ignored for 30 more minutes. My partner and I were flabbergasted. We were not given the opportunity to order food. Lots of employees running around and we were completely ignored. All the other tables around us were checked in with multiple times—and it was early in the evening, so they were not even that busy yet.
Finally, 40 minutes after we had been seated and had already made up our minds we were leaving (I was pulling cash out for our drinks) our “server” showed up.
Again, no introduction, no apology… just “have you decided what you want to eat?” We decided to leave.
The service here is in fact the worst I have experienced in my entire life. I can’t imagine how they are still in business if this is the standard they find acceptable. I will never return here.
I have never walked out of a restaurant before, until coming here. But with this experience, we felt there was no other option.

We had a very enjoyable lunch at Jake’s Grill. At our request the four of us were seated in a quiet area in one of the many rooms of the restaurant, affording us the opportunity to converse. Our waiter, Joan, was very welcoming and responsive to our many questions about the menu. He also provided interesting information about the Sentinel Hotel which houses the restaurant. He was great!
The food was very good. I recommend the rockfish. Prices for the quantity and quality of the food seemed reasonable. I recommend Jake’s Grill for a pleasant place to dine in Portland!

We are visiting from California and had the pleasure of dining at Jake’s Grill in Portland, and I can honestly say it was one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, everything felt seamless. We were seated very quickly, the atmosphere was elegant and welcoming, and the chairs were incredibly comfortable, which made it easy to relax and truly enjoy the evening.
Even the color scheme added to the experience. The pastel brown tablecloths were warm, inviting, and tasteful. Nothing felt tacky or overbearing. Everything was just right and created a calm, relaxing environment that made the entire space feel elevated yet comfortable.
The food was absolutely incredible. Every dish was prepared to perfection and full of flavor. You can tell there is real pride in the kitchen and a strong commitment to quality.
What truly made the night unforgettable was our server, Daisha. She was outstanding. You can immediately tell she has years of experience. She was professional, attentive, and confident without ever being overbearing. What stood out most was how genuine and natural she was. There was nothing scripted or forced about her approach. She was authentic, warm, and made us feel completely taken care of while still giving us space to enjoy our meal. That balance is rare and it made a huge difference in our experience.
Between the incredible food, the beautiful atmosphere, and the exceptional service, this was a phenomenal visit. Jake’s Grill is a place we will absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Portland. Thank you for such a memorable evening.
