Landmark spot for seafood with fish flown in daily, served in clubby digs with oversized booths and cozy tables that are scattered throughout several rooms, making this restaurant feel spacious and intimate.
Jake's has been open since 1892. 1987 and 1988 were my first and second dining experiences here -- my high school prom and my girlfriend's high school prom, respectively. Fast forward to present day, two amazing friends from Missouri were in town for the weekend and wanted to eat somewhere with a "Pure Portland Vibe." Without hesitation I thought, "Jake's."
APPS: Crab and Bay Shrimp Cakes, Kumamoto Oysters on the Half-shell, and Escargot
ENTREES: Dungeness Crab Leg Sauté with Mushrooms and Butter, Cedar Plank Salmon, and 10oz Flat Iron Steak
BEVIES: La Crema Chardonnay, Stag's Leap Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon, and Buoy IPA
DESSERT: While they no longer serve the Chocolate Basket (quel dommage), the Creme Brûlée and Chocolate Mousse were, without hesitation, truly orgasmic
Setting up the reservation with Cassie (not sure if I got the name correct) was easy and delightful, and our server Emily was magnificent. In fact, upon my secret request, I asked Emily if she could greet my guests as if they were UHNWIs. She knocked the greeting out of the ballpark.
Jake's Famous Crawfish always gets FIVE STARS from me, but for this review I knocked it down to FOUR STARS because of the bartender. I know customer service can be a drag, but when I kindly asked if we could transfer our bar tab to our dining room tab, the bartender gave a loud lecture to the entire bar about what an inconvenience that was for her. It was a public scold, one I felt inappropriate and, quite frankly, unremarkable.
But back to the experience that Emily helped create -- we had a grand time at Jake's, one that my friends will never forget. In fact, when they return for their next wedding anniversary, they want to come here. Thank you for that, Jake's, and for the truly magical experience!!
