Server brought the wrong salad but we didn't say anything. Salad was so-so but the Salmon was outstanding. I wish I would have said something about the chicken piccata though. The chicken was very tough, dry and flat in appearance. There was an uninspiring bunch of noodles and very little cream sauce. To top it off, our server was distracted and absent. We will be back to get the right salad and hopefully a better entre. Atmosphere is excellent as always.

I went to Huber's Cafe last week with some friends and the food was pretty good. The service was a bit slow, but the atmosphere made up for it.

The concern is not with the quality of the food as that is always good. The concern is the Happy Hour. The current Happy Hour menu requires an $8.00 minimum drink purchase to receive the Happy Hour prices. This essentially means that you must buy an alcohol beverages as their non-alcholic drinks of soda and coffee do not reach that price point. Pointing this out so you are aware before you go! The food is not bad, taste wise, but it's outdated and not good value for money. Yes, it's one of the oldest eateries in PDX, but I think this is somewhat a case of being too full of one's self. It can get pretty loud when full. The staff were really accommodating and nice to interact with. Food is just overrated for their prices.

Had a pretty uncomfortable time at Huber’s Cafe this past Saturday. I made a reservation a few weeks in advance, and was surprised when we were seated directly behind the hostess stand, arguably the worst spot in the restaurant. The tables were too close together and I spent 3/4 of the meal having to sit extremely close and leaned into the table because the guy behind me was leaning back.
And this was a long time, because our total meal time was two hours. We saw many people be seated and leave before we did while we were there. It’s the holidays, but I had no clue it would be his busy for an early dinner time of 5:00pm. We also had to suffer through the cold breeze coming in from the hallway because people kept leaving the door open.
It’s a very loud space, high ceilings made it impossible to have a conversation. Since we were directly behind the hostess table, we just had the hostesses staring at us and looming nearby, but of course we couldn’t leave any earlier because it took so long to even get our drinks ordered, let alone our dinner and check. And the food was ok, a little lacking on flavor. Our server was super nice, she was the best part. The Spanish coffee makers were also very friendly.
Overall it was really nice to visit a Portland staple, but I don’t know if the ambience is for me since it was so crowded. Maybe it would be better not during the holidays.
