Overall we had a great experience for a birthday celebration. Food was delicious but small portions.
However a few things could be addressed to make the experience top tier.
Menus should be upgraded. For the price I expect to see a very clean and well kept table. Silverware needs to be tossed out and they are not clean and some damaged with sharp burrs. The chairs need to be cleaned.
Valet is a nice touch. Views are very nice probably best in summer and fall with clear sky’s.

We hosted a company dinner at Chart House and unfortunately had one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever encountered.
From the start, the service was extremely delayed. Our server, Jason, would disappear for 25 to 30 minutes at a time without checking on our table. This included delays in bringing water, taking orders, and simply asking if we needed anything. What should have been a standard dinner extended into a 3+ hour ordeal purely due to lack of attentiveness. On top of that, his demeanor was consistently rude and dismissive whenever we requested anything.
After the dinner concluded, we left the required minimum gratuity for our party size. Once the primary cardholder left, Jason followed one of my staff members outside the restaurant — in front of valet and other guests — and demanded that we increase the tip. When she explained it was not her card and that the tip amount was intentional, he stated that if we didn’t change it, he would change it himself. This behavior was incredibly unprofessional, intimidating, and embarrassing for my staff.
The next day, I contacted management. I was told nothing could be addressed until the General Manager, Patrick, was in. When I followed up with Patrick, he initially seemed dismissive and did not address the seriousness of the situation until I expressed my frustration — not just about the tip, but about the conduct of his employee. He then told me he would leave a credit on my name for the adjusted amount and asked that I personally call him when returning so he could ensure an “eloquent” experience.
Before writing this review, I chose to give them the opportunity to make it right. I called ahead to make a reservation and informed the manager on duty that Patrick wanted to be notified of my visit. I was assured the message would be relayed.
Upon returning, the service was fine. However, when the check arrived, there was no acknowledgment of any credit. When I brought it up, Patrick came to the table and stated he did not recall our previous conversation and asked me to re-explain the situation. After questioning the details, he offered only the difference in the gratuity amount as a credit — the bare minimum — without taking accountability for the overall experience or the misconduct that occurred.
Chart House presents itself as a high-end dining establishment, but the way this situation was handled — from the server’s behavior to management’s response — did not reflect the standard they aim to portray. It’s disappointing that a restaurant of this caliber would allow such unprofessional conduct and follow it with dismissive management.
As a company, we frequently host team dinners and client gatherings. Unfortunately, due to this experience and how it was handled, Chart House has lost our future business.

Disappointing food experience. Went for the Stag’s Leap Winery tasting experience. Wine was great and our host Pete was wonderful (passionate, knowledgeable, easy going, and open to all wine/food topics). The food for this 24 person tasting event was not worth the money. Bruschetta was soggy but flavor was good. Avocado belinis were also soggy and flavor was ok, salty. Lamb was raw and flavorless. Told the server it was raw and it came back with what looks like the entire plate was stuck in a broiler - potato puree came back crispy and the tops of the lamp were cooked but fat cap still solid and raw in the middle. Beef cut was a “rib piece” again served with lots of fat caps and rarer than many would enjoy. Didn’t enjoy the eating around it experience. Olive oil cake was yummy and not too sweet. One of our group ended up getting two different wines poured in the same glass as they were at the end of a bottle and mixed it up. Appreciate them correcting it quickly once we pointed it out. Parking was a struggle, thankfully my coworker and I got the last 2 valet spaces. Most guests at the tasting (including my boss) had to find a spot somewhere on the dark windy street. For the price and fine dining label, you could go to better places in Portland.

Chart House has a big outside game of fine dining but when it comes to the very pricey food, it should be amazing. We ordered the Kim chi calamari which explicitly said 'lightly fried' on menu. When placed on our table, it was deep golden brown, not lightly fried. The calamari was very very chewy! The calamari rings could have been used as carnival rings around the milk bottle...where is my free goldfish to take home?!
Although the steak was very well cooked to med rare amd the right amount of salt and grill marks.
Mashed potatoes could be used to cover holes in my rental, they were so gluey. What happened to using butter and cream??
Asparagus...culinary 101 = peel and breakoff woody ends. If you are preparing ala carte veggies, treat the product right and you make something simple, absolutely delicious.
Our server was great and resolved our issue with the calamari. What was sad is seeing the table next to us get the same dark brown calamari and they didnt eat it either. Listen to your patrons and make it better.
I used to enjoy going to the Chart House for special occasions, but unfortunately that chapter most likely closed last night.
Last evening’s entrees were good, but not great (Lobster & Shrimp Carbonara and Spiced Ahi), but the Oysters On The Half Shell were unacceptable… especially for $20/half dozen. A couple of them were so small, seriously the size of a nickel.
$15 each for the only-okay cocktails? No thanks.
I’m definitely not a fan of the mandatory valet parking (two years ago the attendant there left our window open during a torrential downpour that drenched the inside of our car). -- I get it. The small lot gets busy... don't want door dings on the Lambos and Maseratis out front.
I’ll leave the Chart House to the folks who continue to go there for whatever reason. I’ll be headed elsewhere.
Generously giving 3-stars for the great visits in the many, many years past.
