We sat downstairs at a window and had a stunning Willamette river view. Downstairs is also the bar area but the restaurant does a good job of keeping it separate from the restaurant and it's a peaceful atmosphere regardless. The server and support staff were all very friendly and didn't carry The ego and pretentiousness of say, The Ringside. (See their review for more).
The food was excellent! Beautifully presented and delicious-it was slightly cold however-managers; maybe the support staff bringing out the plates should be reminded to act quickly, as soon as chef puts the plates on the pass they need to bring it to the customer? I worked at a restaurant and it didn't matter what you were in the kitchen for or if it was your table or job or not, if you saw hot plates on the pass, you delivered them immediately. But that was not a huge issue. Overall, fantastic experience!
Pros:
*service-friendly and efficient
*food-one of the few Pdx & surrounding areas that seem to offer prime rib and it was fab. Lava cake is to die for!
*atmosphere-20 of 10, GORGEOUS spot.
Cons:
*they don't show on their website that it's valet parking only. Not a big deal, I prefer it in crowded lots, but good to know ahead if time.
*food could be hotter.
Coconut shrimp overcooked and dry. Tuna wonton app was very good. Halibut was expensive for the portion size and ended up being overcooked as it was ordered "firm" but it was extremely dry while the citrus butter tried to revive it. Filet was ordered medium + and was medium well + instead. Nicely salted and flavored but the blue cheese butter side was not able to resuscitate the steak which came with a bit of dry, flavorless mashed potatoes. The saving grace for our experience was a) Servers Dakota & Ryan and b) the view. Unsure if we'll return.
I don't like to leave restaurants bad reviews, and I tried to provide feedback on the Landry's website first so meaningful changes could be made without leaving a poor review, but the site wouldn't allow me to select a restaurant location..so here we are. We had a 5:30 reservation with the intent of enjoying the Portland Dining Month meal, and were seated promptly. From there it went downhill. We weren't brought a Portland dining month menu and had to specifically ask for it, and it took a full 30+ minutes from being seated to receiving our initial bread basket (which we had to ask for, as by that point we were starving). That continued to be a theme throughout the night as service was EXTREMELY slow between each course. As for the food, the clam chowder tasted like it was from a can and wasn't even hot, the chopped salad was flavorless with little to no dressing, and the prime rib and accompanying mashed potatoes were extremely dry. Half of the rime rib was fat, which was very disappointing, and the horseradish was basically mayo. Our server Kevin never asked us if we enjoyed the food, but when asked if he could box up the rest of the side of asparagus, we told him it was extremely mushy to the point of being inedible, but he did not remove that from the bill. Giving two stars because the shrimp and lobster carbonara was delicious, but very disappointing to leave unsatisfied from a "high-end restaurant" after spending over $160 for 2 people. We were also seated as far as possible from the windows with a view, which I know they couldn't guarantee, but it felt like salt in the wound after the terrible service and food we received. We will not be back.
You know when you want to get a little dressed up and go to a nice restaurant without feeling overdressed or rushed through your meal? This is the spot. We had a wonderful date night here. Attentive service, good atmosphere (not too quiet, not too loud), and good food. Plus you can’t beat the view and complimentary valet. Everything on the menu looked good, we could come here a dozen times and have something different every time. We appreciated the mocktail menu!
We came here for dinner as part of Portland dining month. We use the opportunity to try out new restaurants. Firstly: The views from the restaurant are amazing. It was a perfect evening for us to be there. The cocktails we ordered were tasty. Our server was excellent. 10/10.
Now on to the food:
My partner and I chose separate entrees from the Portland dining month menu, but we both picked the same salad and dessert.
1) the house chop salad. The dressing was good, but the lettuce was not fresh and sadly that caused the whole salad to have a mild taste of water rot/leaf rot. The shredded carrots similarly tasted like they’d sat in a bag too long.
2) Miso crusted salmon with green beans. The beans were perfection. The salmon itself had an excellent, delicious crust on it and flavor was spot on but the salmon itself was overcooked and bordering on dry.
Prime rib: The flavor was good but oddly the steak was not seared. Maybe that’s how chart house cooks steak? The mashed potatoes were underwhelming.
3) Dessert. We had the signature chocolate molten lava cake as recommended by our server. What showed up was more like a brownie with ice cream. It was not a lava cake as the entire thing was solid and there was no molten interior to speak of. The flavor was good but it was not a lava cake.
Nothing arrived at our table hot. Partner’s food was lukewarm at best. We went there hoping we had found a place not too far from home for a nice(r) date night, but alas…..
Overall we found the experience disappointing and will not be back especially at that price point. Sad to say our other PDX dining month experiences have been infinitely better.
