  I can't begin to explain how much I love this spot. The ramen is great, the service is friendly. I tried a few different ramen already, and all were exceptional.

  I was so glad to hear that Baka Umai was opening another location, best ramen in Portland! I appreciate all the gluten free options and substitutions.

  I've been waiting for a ramen spot on 23rd for years and I'm so happy Baka Umai moved in! The ramen here was absolutely amazing, I appreciate all the different options they had for their ramen. The meat was tender and juicy, the broth was filling and tasteful; nothing else I could ask for from this bowl of noodles. I love my dish here and will definitely be back!

  There’s something about walking down a set of stairs into a ramen bar that just sets the tone for cozy and inviting. Which is what ramen itself is- the coziest of foods, perfect for the winter days of Portland. The service here was informal and friendly. Interactions are a conversation, improvised, which maybe some folks could look at as not buttoned down, but we felt like we were making new friends. It definitely went along with the overall relaxed, family room feel. The ramen itself is special. They have classics that are just perfect, like my wife’s silky and rich Tonkotsu. Then there are the special dishes with a Portland twist, like my “chorizo-men.” It was both insanely flavorful and properly spicy. Not for the weak of heart, but if you can handle the heat it’s some of the best ramen you’ve ever had. Portions were big as you would expect, indeed we had a second meal for the next day. This is our new go-to ramen spot. Thanks to the team here for having us for dinner, we’ll be back soon.
