    State & Main was honestly great! Food and service was very good. Would highly reccomend dining here with your loved ones. The bison burger and rigatoni shrimp pasta were pretty solid. My wife got the fish tacos and they were yummy ! The dessert was also finger lickin good !

    Our server Sydney was great however I can’t say the same about the bartender Alana . Our table waited over ten minutes for 1 beer and a frozen margarita . When the margarita arrived it was slushy and watery it looked nothing like the previous one that someone else at the table had, we asked our server to remake it and I watched her walk over to ask the bartender Alana and point to the other margarita on our table, only to watch Alana shrug her shoulders and mouth something along the lines of “ not my problem, I’m busy go get someone else” our server came over to advise there was a slight delay and I requested the manager . Having worked both the bar and floor myself and having a restaurant in the family we notice things like this and it sets a tone. People will come for the food but will not return due to the service !

    On February 14, 2026, at approximately 12:15 p.m., I visited State & Main in Whitby to celebrate a friend’s birthday. What was intended to be a special occasion quickly turned into a deeply disappointing and unsettling experience. We both selected the Valentine’s Day four-course menu. During the second course, Bang Bang Shrimp, we discovered a long grey hair in the dish. Our server appeared shocked and promptly replaced the plate, explaining she had just taken another table’s order. Although this incident alone was concerning, we chose to remain because it was Valentine’s Day and other restaurants in the area were fully booked. Unfortunately, the issue was not isolated. When our third course—the steak—arrived, we carefully inspected it before eating. To our disbelief, we found yet another grey hair, this time in the horseradish garnish. At that point, any confidence we had in the kitchen’s standards was gone. When we informed our server, she apologized and offered to replace the dish, which we declined. We also advised that we no longer wished to receive the dessert course and were ready to leave. The bill was brought to us with one of the meals removed. While this gesture was acknowledged, it does little to address the severity of the experience. Discovering hair in not one, but two separate courses at the same table suggests a serious lapse in food safety and quality control. It is difficult to understand how such an oversight could occur twice in a single service. What was equally disappointing was the absence of any managerial involvement. At no point did a manager come to our table to apologize or address the situation. The lack of accountability and concern was as troubling as the food itself. Having worked in customer-facing roles for most of my adult life, I understand the importance of service recovery. In this case, that standard was not met. A birthday celebration that should have been enjoyable instead left us feeling uncomfortable and genuinely unwell. The experience was not only disappointing—it was unacceptable. I hope this matter is taken seriously and that appropriate measures are implemented to ensure that no other guests encounter a similar situation.

    I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience at State & Main was extremely disappointing. While the food was genuinely excellent and the ambience was enjoyable, the service was completely unacceptable. Our salad, appetizers, and entrees were all brought out back-to-back with no pacing whatsoever. When we questioned why the entrees were served so early, we were told we could “no rush ,eat at our own pace,” and server walked away which completely missed the point and felt dismissive. Proper service is not just about delivering food—it’s about timing, attentiveness, and ensuring guests feel comfortable. Instead, we felt rushed and uncomfortable throughout the entire visit. For a restaurant that positions itself as a benchmark in the area, this level of service is simply not acceptable. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses it. Sorry for the review
