*Value*
If you're an avid RFDer like me, who is used to getting 50+% off everything, then Montana's is a bit expensive for what it gives.
For anyone else, I give Montana's a strong recommend. Forget fast food (except Wendy's, who also gives good bang for your buck), forget Red Lobster, Montana's is the place to go.
*What to Get*
If it's your first time at Montana's, I recommend ordering takeout on Sunday, and plundering the Kid's menu. It's a good way to get a taste of everything Montana's has to offer at a very affordable price. Note that the fries on the kids meal is a smaller serving size. You can substitute them for a normal side garden salad at no cost.
If you're dining in, the kid's menu will not be available unless you are a kid. Please be mindful of that. The rib taster plate with it's default options (coleslaw, fries) is a pretty solid meal, excellent call on Montana's part there. That said, it's a bit expensive for what you're getting at menu price.
Montana's likes to advertise its chicken wings. It's alright, but it's very mediocre. If you do want to try it out, you can get it at half price on mondays.
I'm writing this review right after trying the brisket sandwich, which is by far the best thing I've had here. The brisket is excellent, and the sandwich is very well made. That said, the sandwich is not particularly big, so $20 for that and fries feels very expensive.
There's another way to acquire the brisket sandwich. Every day, until 4 PM, Montana's offers a "Lunch Trio". For $16, you get a soup, a salad, and half the brisket sandwich. It's not advertised anywhere on the menu or the site, but the employee told me that you can upgrade to a full sandwich for $5. I did not do so, and as you might guess, I regret that decision. The Caesar salad is quite good and my recommended choice. It's a bit small and not worth buying separately, but nice to have included in the trio. The Pot Roast Soup was quite terrible, easily the worst food I've got from this Montana's, and I'll be trying out the feature soup instead the next time I get the trio.
*Service and Atmosphere*
First of all, the seats in the center of this location are connected to the seats they are opposite of. If the person on the other table moves, you will feel it. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE should you sit on one of these. I did so once, it ruined the dining experience completely and made my stomach hurt.
Also, depending on the day, the service may be a bit slow.
These two issues aside, the employees at this Montana's are extremely nice, it's what every restaurant should aspire to provide.
EDIT: So I came back.
First of all, the game day feast is NOT on today. It's on for "48 hours starting from the day after the raptors score 5 free throws." As the manager explained to me, HQ sends an email every day telling the manager if its on. That's nice, but could they update the site as well? The site says your feast awaits and even gives you a barcode to scan. Very misleading to customers.
The half-sandwich upgrade does in fact exist. The employee quoted $4. The bill was actually $5. Also misleading to customers.
That said, the upgrade for $5 is still very much worth it. I highly recommend doing so, and I'm not even paid to upsell Montana's.
As for the feature soup, it's pretty meh, but 'meh' is still a very substantial improvement to 'pretty terrible'. When you consider that its served with a pretty good caesar salad and an excellent sandwich, the lunch trio on the net comes out as a clear recommend.
Overall, no changes to my rating. Montana's is a great place, but there's some room for improvement.
EDIT 2: Service was fast today. Portia was willing to answer my questions (what was the red triangle in my friees? A. Nacho.) If I were to rate on today's experience alone, I would rate 5/5.
