I do not usually leave reviews unless a place is truly memorable in a good way, but this experience was very disappointing.
The food itself was underwhelming and honestly reminded me of an in-flight meal. The lettuce wrap in particular was quite disappointing. The lettuce seemed old, had lost all its crispness, and the color had started to change.
However, the main reason this became one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had this year was the service.
While we were ordering, our server interrupted us several times in the middle of speaking, which made it feel like she did not want to listen. When we ordered wine, I was clearly pointing to the one we wanted, but she kept saying “what” in an annoyed tone as if she could not understand us.
We also had to ask twice for tap water because it took so long to arrive. When we asked again, she responded with “I know, I know,” which felt quite rude. When she finally brought the water, she put the glass down loudly in a way that came across as frustrated or irritated.
I didn’t take any pictures of the food, so I am at least leaving a picture of the seat to show how unclean it was.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and it really ruined our night. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.
We had such a great experience at Pickle Barrel thanks to Javier. He was honestly exceptional from start to finish. It was my niece’s Lara 11th Birthday and he made it the greater experience ever. My family and I will be back because of him. He surprised us with delicious cake and candles. It brought tears to our eyes . He made my niece so happy.
He was attentive without being overwhelming, made sure everything came out perfectly, and had such a positive and friendly attitude the entire time. You can tell he really cares about the customer experience and takes pride in what he does.
It’s rare to come across service like this—Javier truly made our visit stand out. We’ll definitely be back, and I hope we get him again!
Thank you so much Javier for the great experience and amazing food. You are awesome.

The drinks were great, and both the hostess and our waiter provided excellent customer service—they were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome.
Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the same standard. The burger was mediocre, nothing special. I ordered the fish and chips and had to send it back because the batter was not crispy and lacked flavour.
Our waiter was kind enough to have the chef remake it, which I appreciated. However, the second attempt was only slightly better—the batter was still not crispy and remained soggy, making it quite unappetizing.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience. I should have ordered something else, but I expected the second attempt to be an improvement. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to change my impression, and I won’t be returning.

We came to the Yorkdale location for lunch because my sister-in-law was introducing her in-laws to her parents, so it was a pretty important first meeting. Sasi took great care of our whole table and made the experience feel easy from the start. He was friendly, attentive, and really good at reading the table without being overbearing.
He gave solid recommendations especially helpful since my mother-in-law is vegetarian, and he made sure she had great options and didn’t feel limited at all. He also made sure our two kids were comfortable and taken care of, which we really appreciated.
The food was a hit all around & no one at the table was sleeping on the smothered chicken!!! #bomb - it was a standout. The calamari sauces were great, the sandwiches were big and satisfying, and the spicy gravy was a favourite.
Overall, Sasi made what could’ve been a slightly stressful family meetup feel smooth and enjoyable. Would definitely come back.

Went for late lunch March 18 3:30. No one at the front desk. We had to walk in to find someone. Place seemed empty but there were people seated out of view.
Service was quick. Waitress suggested the happy hour fish and chips which were not on the menu. Just one fish rather than two. My friend ordered this and I had the corned beef sandwich with soup.
Fish was adequate but batter was soft. Portion was average.
My corned beef sandwich was not impressive. Taste was not as good as I expected and the amount was disappointing. I am sure I have had better at Pickle Barrel in the past.
Coleslaw was excellent!
Beef barley soup was good.
Decor is lovely. Pleasant quiet atmosphere.
I suspect the low volume of customers in the late afternoon is indicative of a shrinking customer base. The menu was extensive at one time but is now rather average.
Pickle Barrel was once a good choice. Recent closures suggests that they have declined for some reason. I suspect the economy has forced a reduction in the value they offered in the past.
