Had a wonderful experience with The Chef Upstairs who I hired to help me host a dinner party in our home for my husband's 60th. Adamo was an absolute gem of a chef _ professional start to finish. He arrived on time and the food did not disappoint. I think dining at home with The Chef Upstairs could rival any upscale restaurant in Toronto. Highly recommend.

What a fun way to celebrate a 75th birthday. Under the guidance of Chef Obe and Debbie, our guests helped prep our delicious meal. Such a memorable evening with good friends, great food, wine and music. Thank you Chef Upstairs!

What a fabulous night!!! This was a Christmas gift from last year that I am asking for again this year. The experience was fun and entertaining. Adamo and Holly were inviting and engaged with everyone. We learned Greek Mezze. I would highly recommend this to anyone for a night out doing something different. I cannot say enough great things about this event.

I feel I need to warn people about this business. I booked a class for my wife and I for her birthday. Unfortunately she fell ill a couple of days ahead of time, so rather than bring a sick person to a cooking class I let the Chef Upstairs people know that she was sick and I asked if we could reschedule. I was shocked when they told me that not only could we NOT reschedule or get a refund, but that because I had disclosed that she was sick they would NOT allow us to come. The person on the phone literally said "if you show up we will turn you away".
So the end result is that they keep our money and we aren't allowed to go. As if that isn't enough, the evening of the event (while sitting at home on my couch) I received an email charging my credit card an extra $10.48 for two coffees! I have sent the business an email to ask if they will remove this charge but I am not optimistic they will do so.
I have never had such a bad experience with any company.
Edit: In response to the business owner's response:
It is categorically untrue the I was verbally aggressive, and shame on you for trying to play that card. Just because someone doesn't agree with you that doesn't mean they are "aggressive". I think perhaps treating your customers with respect should be part of your corporate-speak.
I was definitely upset that your company was unwilling to show the tiniest bit of flexibility whatsoever, and was flabbergasted when I was told that we would be turned away AND that there were no other options for refund or rescheduling. Yes, I was told I could send someone else (which really is not feasible), or that we could "pick up leftovers" after the class. Honestly, $350 for picked-over leftovers is not a reasonable accommodation.
Regarding the coffee charge - you did not immediately email me back, you did so the next day. What kind of a company are you running where you are emailing people with someone else's charges? How does that even happen? Credit card transactions are subject to privacy legislation (specifically, PCI compliance), which means that there should be no opportunity for this sort of thing to happen. What exactly are you doing with peoples' credit card information?
