- DTDavid TaylorJan 1, 20261.0On Thursday, January 1st, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., I visited the McDonald's Restaurant at 630 Keele St, and was confronted with the most detestable, germ-ridden, ungroomed, appalling scene. Although it was New Year's Day and later in the evening, I expected a welcoming environment suitable for families, possibly out with their children enjoying a holiday Happy Meal. Instead, I witnessed a homeless man sprawled on a bench, his shoes off and bare, unwashed feet surrounded by discarded food scraps and McDonald's bags. I noticed at least four empty tables with Serving Numbers oddly placed on top, which reflects a lack of attention to the dining area. The floor was riddled with seemingly everything on the menu board, forcing me to wander around the restaurant to find a table that was remotely clean or fit for eating. The food itself was far from satisfactory. My hamburger arrived in a greasy wrapper that looked as though it had fallen onto the floor before being handed to me, and the French fries were cold. A food inspector would have shut the restaurant down for lack of cleanliness. I wouldn’t dare have gone into the bathroom to wash my hands for fear that it might be worse. The only positive thing I have to say about this location is that the lights were on.
