Do NOT waste your time or money by visiting Swiss Chalet in Thunder Bay. They served drinks to multiple people in filthy glasses, in including us, while there. They are severely understaffed and management has failed in their responsibility to guests, staff and their corporate head office, who knows about the problems at this location and fails to address or resolve them. The health department was notified and the kitchen and servers complied with regulations while they were present. However, the franchise holder and their corporate office need to address the continued poor food handling practices when government inspectors are not present. Initial Complaint sent to Swiss Chalet Head Office Jan 3, 2026, 6:36 AM EST I took my Chiropractors receptionist out for lunch and arrived at 12:30pm. We had 90 minutes before her return to work for 2:00pm. Both of us ordered the Festive special. There were visually 2 servers working while we were there and the restaurant was at 20%-25% capacity. Her Shirley Temple and my water arrived after 30 minutes, seeking out the waitress and asking for the drinks a second time. After they arrived and drinking 1/5 of the drink, discovered the Glass was filthy and coated with dishwasher crud and lipstick residue which became obvious as the level of the red tinted drink dropped. We waved the waitress down to replace the drink. As she took ours away, the other server was walking away from one of the other occupied tables with a glass, replacing another dirty glass from another table and customer. This is a critical health public health issue and violation. After 1 HOUR passed, we flagged the waitress again, asking if the food was coming and advised her at this time, this was an extended lunch of 90 minutes and we now had a 30 minute time limit remaining. We were assured the food was coming shortly, yet after another 15 minutes, I got up to speak to the waitress who went behind the partition to the side of the kitchen. That's when I viewed stacks of plates of unserved food, sitting under the heat lamps. Visually, it appear that all orders for the handful of occupied waiting tables were plated and waiting to be served and were at various stages of cooling with steam rising from the ones at the back and the ones forward of the heat lamp had been pushed away from the heat source. This is a serious health issue. I once again, asked the waitress about our food who advised she would bring it over right away. I returned to the table and we left 10 minutes later, with never being served, after ordering and waiting 90 minutes. We grabbed a take out from KFC, which my friend didn't even have time to eat before getting back late to work, due to the staff issues at Swiss Chalet, who ruined the gift of a Christmas dinner treat. This experience mirrors the last time I tried eating here in the summer of 2025, where again, we left without food after waiting in an empty restaurant, which is why I now decided to contact the head office. Clearly there is an issue with the franchise holder in Thunder Bay and corporate needs to speak to them. ......,

Arrived at 4:30. No one came to our table for at least 20 minutes. My husband had to ask if we had a waitress assigned. She finally came over 10 min. later. No apology. Waited an hour for lukewarm meals. Won't return. Save your money.

So my parents are in their 80's so it's a bit much for my Mom to make a big Christmas dinner anymore. I just got back to town, and to be honest I'm not skilled enough in the kitchen to pull that off. So last week they ordered Swiss Chalet that was supposed to be delivered at 6pm. At 4pm, they got a call from head office saying they closed at 3pm and would not be delivering. They refunded them and gave them a $20 store credit.🙄 As mentioned, my parents are in their 80's so they don't have a lot of food around the house. I didn't find out until I got to my parents at 5pm so much I could do about it. So we had frozen lasagna and appetizers. The irony is my gift for them is a Swiss Chalet gift card because they go there often.
