The roots of this venerable establishment were originally planted by Tennessee native Leroy “Van” Vandegrift, who moved with family to Oklahoma City, where he graduated from Central High. He served in the Army before working as a tool dresser in the oil fields of North Texas and began cooking for fellow roughnecks on rig sites. Around 1928, Van opened his first Pig Stand in a hotel in Wewoka, Oklahoma. It was a small little store serving barbecue such as the Pig Sandwich® and Ribs. The menu also included other types of sandwiches such as Liverwurst, Pimento, Chicken Salad, and Cream Cheese. In 1929 a second Pig Stand opened in Seminole and was then sold in 1935. Pig Stands were later opened in Wichita Falls, Texas and Wichita, Kansas.
On June 5, 1930, Van opened his third Pig Stand Location at 714 Highland in Shawnee. In the same year, Van married Thelma Maree Glenn. In 1935 the Shawnee store moved across the street to its present location.

When I ordered my brisket sandwich, I always asked for lean. Then I noticed that there were fats on my sandwich. I took it to the cook and asked for the lean. Then the food arrived to my table but I noticed that there are less proportion of meat in my sandwich than the previous one with more proportion of meat. I'm not happy with its less proportion of brisket in my sandwich.
The curly fries was really good as if it was freshly cut from the potatoes.
Sweet tea is alright but it need to be done better.
The lady who worked as a server is really friendly.
I don't know if I want to come back for a second round after I lost some proportion of meat in my sandwich.

Food was good from experience I have had. Service ruins atmosphere. I’ve never witnessed someone that spent over $100 be treated so poorly after you always institution messed up so badly and got a Xmas/ny meal. She was so kind of ordering the meal. Usually people are so angry, frustrated, but when we confront lady who took and forgot a lot of stuff, a lot of money is worth she didn’t respond and it’s not her fault but like act professional please.

Very mid. Sausage super underwhelming, ribs were bland, and beans were bland too. Only good thing was the Mac and cheese

When in at noon for lunch and ordered a combo plate with brisket and ribs. Ribs and sides were absolutely delicious. Brisket with so dry and tough it was inedible. Counter replaced brisket with extra ribs. Last three times I have tried brisket it has been terrible. I remember many times getting brisket that was excellent from Vans. My brain and my mouth still wants some but I won't try anymore. My Friend eating lunch with me said the chopped brisket was good.
