I'm always skeptical about inland seafood restaurants, but Captain John's was really far above my expectations. They have a really good, diverse menu. There are a lot of great choices that would fit just about anyone's likes.

Damn good food! Love the red beans and rice. Steaks are seasoned great and taste good. It’s a “must stop” when I’m in town. Never actually been to the restaurant itself because I drive a truck but the door dash is always solid.

The deceptive exterior does not fool the locals! We got here just before the crowd. I enjoyed excellent catfish, lightly seasoned with hushpuppies and a baked sweet potato. My husband enjoyed some kind of seafood platter with fried catfish, etoufee and shrimp. The device was quick and the food was very hot and fresh. I loved the atmosphere with the canoe on the ceiling, American flag of mini lights and the nice mix of rock, blues and country hits.

I love this restaurant. The food is excellent. I love the appetizers. They give you a lot of food. The waitresses are very sweet. My son and I have eaten there several times. There are a few waitresses I know work there. Just an all-around great place to eat.❤️❤️❤️

My husband and my father got the in house battered lunch fish meal and both were thrown off and surprised when it came cornmeal dusted/fried. They were expecting an actual battered light & crispy fish. It does not say on the menu anything about cornmeal. I ordered the surf and turf and my steak was medium well rather than medium. The steak was MID. The upcharge for Gouda mashed potatoes is 99 cents but honestly they were MID and dry. The shrimp skewer was overcooked and rubbery with zero flavor. The upsetting part for me was they do not have an option to add on one crab cake per the waitress. Okay fine, I'll order the two piece appetizer so I can have a "maryland style" crab cake with my $26 meal making my meal $36. Someone at Captain John's needs to educate themselves on what a maryland style crab cake is. We received two overly fried discs that tasted mostly like oil and filler. Maryland style is pan seared, lightly browned lumpy and full of crab chunks and meat with a very light amount of filler. It's thick and juicy. Not dry and flat. They should change their description to coated/battered fried crab cake disc so people know what they are getting. They should update their menu to reflect what you think you're getting is actually what is being described. The diet Pepsi was flat. It's not hard to make sure your pop stays up to date especially with the cost of a single pop these days since they factor in refills for everyone. Why didn't we ask for new food or for anything to be recooked? We are traveling and not everyone has time to do that when they are on a schedule. I don't mind paying $36.00 for a meal but if it costs that much, you better make damn sure the taste reflects the cost and unfortunately, it did not. We will not be back. One & done for us and we travel through Mcaslester quite often for business.
