Walked in to the Chipotle, it was 1:45, maybe 1:50, 02.25.26. Was told that they didn't have anything but Barb and Tofu ready to sell. How long is the wait, I asked. Nice worker asks the guy at the grill, he says, about 10 minutes.
No problem. I sit down to wait with another lady.
10 minutes, turns into 20, and finally the meat is off the grill. I did not complain once, it takes time to cook food and it is safety, no worries. In the interim time, I witnessed the manager do the following:
Loudly swear repeatedly at workers, joking around, but it is not professional. The word Fuck was used at least 4 times.
Announce, while the meat is waiting to be cut, that she is, "Going outside," because "Damien just Snapped at me!" Proceeds to not return for at least 5 minutes.
Touches her phone, then handle utensils, without washing. Nasty, but not atypical. Several workers are guilty of this.
Takes a juice box from the fridge and down it without scanning it out, or payment. Might be harmless, might have been theft. I've never worked anywhere you take without scanning.
As a manager myself (of multi million dollar projects), I have strong feelings on her actions, but at this juncture, I didn't know she was the manager. I figured I just witnessed the laziest employee at that location.
In those 20 minutes, there was about 10 people in the door, some ordered (4), some waited (6).
Now there are 6 of us sitting there waiting for the meat to be cut, it is sitting in the bins, on the counter. Then 10 more minutes goes by, 30 minute total wait, and now the meat is moved to the back of the store by the rice cookers. At which point, an older gentleman calmly asks when the meat will be ready. Pointing out, when he came in, he was told 2 minutes. The manager, tells him, immediately rude in tone, it won't be two minutes, it might be ten minutes, at least ten minutes, maybe longer. Hearing this, 3 leave immediately, with some justified muttering. The manager moves to the back of the cookline, behind the island, and is verbally mocking the customers as they leave, waving goodbye, verbally taunting them.
Ten more minutes go by, so I ask the grill guy who was nice before when the meat is going to be cut. He goes and gets the manager, obviously something is going down with that meat. (Also note, there is no meat down on the grill for the last 20 minutes at this time.) The manager then gets immediately snotty with me, "Didn't you hear what I just told him, you were looking right at me when I said it. Didn't you hear me!?!?" She was shouting at me at this point. I said, "Yes, I heard you, I'm trying to make sense how I was told ten minutes a half an hour ago, and the meat is done, but not being cut." She yells something honestly unintelligible at me, I started laughing, and asked, "Are you the manager?" YES!!! I didn't know what to say, but decided I needed to leave before I descended to her level. I returned to laughter because I was blown away with this treatment. I did landed a solid part shot. I turned to the grill cook and said, " Don't worry bro, I'll make sure you get new management."
The manager went ballistic, the two remaining guys were busting up laughing and she was shouting at me the whole way out the store. Pretty sure she flicked me off through the window, but I couldn't be sure with the sun glare. Called Chipotle support, they barely cared, the lady spent the whole time talking over me... I invite you to review your kitchen cameras, you will find her actions are accurately documented here.
Termination is the only proper course of action. You cannot retrain attitude, and that manager, is a liability to your business. Ask your HR department.
