I can't say enough great things about this place. It's my absolute favorite, and I visit quite frequently. I didn't realize Gold Star had cheeseburgers until a few years ago, when my husband brought some home for dinner, along with milkshakes. As an amateur cheeseburger connoisseur, I initially had my doubts, but was pleasantly surprised- It was one of the best cheeseburgers I ever had and boy, was I hooked!
The burger platters also come with crinkle fries, which can be upgraded to chili cheese fries, among other options. The milkshakes are made the old fashioned way with real ice cream, so please tip if you can (especially in the drive thru) because they're hand-dipped and a little time-consuming. Also, I loved that they were donating proceeds from every milkshake purchase to a charity for children for some time 🥰
Speaking of kiddos, children eat free on Tuesday nights (I believe it's dine-in with the purchase of an adult entree, not sure about exact details). You can also download the Gold Star Chili app on your phone for points that add up quickly with lots of rewards and freebies. It's totally worth signing up for.
If you decide to dine-in, you'll see they keep this place very clean. I've been a regular customer for now than a few years now, and I've also noticed the employees are compassionate about their job, and the employee turnover is seemingly low, which is impressive, especially for a fast food environment. That in itself, speaks volumes about how awesome the owner must be. All these details define strong characteristics of great integrity and genuine compassion for people. It's so refreshing to see such stewardship in today's society and it makes my heart full.
The employees here have become almost like family to me. I've never had a bad experience and they've always treated me well. I look forward to seeing them in the mornings after a long night shift at the hospital, because they always make my day brighter.
Sometime this past summer, I came through the drive thru, after a long night shift at the hospital. It was a Sunday morning right at opening time. I was exhausted, hungry, and ready for bed. One of the managers (Erin) took my debit card to pay and it declined, due to a fraud alert hold placed on my account ***Didn't know this at the time***.
I was so embarrassed and fell to pieces. I started crying uncontrollably because I had no idea what was going on and felt anxious because I couldn't call my bank on a Sunday morning. Erin was so patient, calm, and kindly offered to pay for my meal (out of her own pocket), after she saw I was a distraught mess on the verge of a panic attack. She sat with me, helped ease my anxiety, and made sure I was okay to drive home. It was a terrible felling, but my heart was full of gratitude. I figured out the issue with my bank the following day, I went back and tried to give money back to her, which she kindly refused, but agreed to put the money in the tip jar for the staff. What she said next touched my heart, "I would never let anyone in need drive away hungry."
We desperately need more people like Erin in this world today. She's an extremely valuable asset to your company, and I'll never forget what she did for me. Her beautiful heart and amazing energy are contagious. She spreads light and love and you're so blessed to have her. I witnessed her integrity, morals, and loyalty first hand. Her act of kindness meant so much to me, that it's taken me a long time to write this to express the brevity of my gratitude. If it were up to me, I would multiply her salary by three. Honest employees like her are extremely rare, and her good stewardship is truly priceless. If she did that for me, imagine how many other's hearts she's touched that you're unaware of, because people don't have the time. She deserves great acknowledgement and many, many Kudos! God bless you, Erin. Don't let anyone take your sunshine away 🥰 Thank you for all you do.
Keep up the great work and I'll see you all very soon! God bless
