While using the self-checkout, I encountered an issue and requested assistance from the young male employee who works nights and is typically stationed near the self-checkout area. His response was openly dismissive and rude. He appeared visibly annoyed that he had to help, scuffed, and made it very clear—through his attitude and behavior—that assisting a customer was an inconvenience to him. I have never felt so disrespected in a grocery store. As a customer, being made to feel like a burden for asking for help—especially at self-checkout, where assistance is part of the employee’s role—is unacceptable. Helping customers resolve issues is not optional; it is the job. I expect better from a store that otherwise presents itself as community-focused and customer-oriented. This interaction left a lasting negative impression, and I hope management addresses the importance of professionalism, especially for employees assigned to customer assistance roles.
