A Simple Stop That Turned Into a Lesson I’m a truck driver, and like most drivers, I don’t stop unless I need to. This particular stop was about my stomach. I was looking for some milk to help coat it because I deal with stomach issues. The store didn’t have any milk, so I figured a shake might do the trick. That’s where the experience went downhill. As I walked up to the counter, the girl behind it looked straight at me—and then continued acting as if I didn’t exist. No greeting. No “I’ll be with you in a moment.” Just silence. After standing there for a few minutes, I finally used their self-service kiosk to place my order. A few minutes passed. My drink popped up on the screen, but the three girls behind the counter stayed deep in conversation, laughing and talking as if I were an inconvenience rather than a customer. Eventually, I asked if they were going to make my drink, explaining that I’m a truck driver and needed to get back on the road. Instead of helping, they began arguing with each other about whose job it was to make it. After a few more minutes, one girl finally stood up from where she was sitting and walked toward the machine. She took a few steps, stopped, turned back to the other two, and asked, “How do you make a shake?” At that point, it felt like I was watching a bad remake of The Three Stooges. After waiting even longer, I gave up and asked for a refund. Standing there, all I could think was how disappointed their parents would probably be if they knew this was the level of pride being taken in their work. I later called the company’s 800 number to file a complaint, hoping at least that would be different. Unfortunately, it was just as disappointing as the service in the store. In the end, I walked away frustrated—but also thankful. Thankful that we don’t have one of these stores where I live, and thankful they’re few and far between. As a truck driver, time matters. Respect matters. And sometimes, a simple stop reminds you just how rare good service has become.

Try to order ice cream at Erie Islands travel Plaza, westbound. Banana split on the menu was said to be unavailable, but they could still make us the three scoops of ice cream with all the other toppings of a banana split if we wanted. We said we would do that, but then they go and try to charge us 8.59 for three scoops instead of 6.49 for a banana split that should not have even been on the menu if they couldn’t make it. Their toppings cost extra, but then I realized that when we ordered the two scoops of ice cream instead of the three they were going to put the toppings on for a banana split, but no, they do not have banana splits. And they have no control over their menu. I don’t understand why a franchise forces all locations to advertise a banana split that doesn’t exist can’t figure out how to furnish bananas at each franchise location. Not impressed. Should’ve spent my money across the building at Burger King. So basically, the ice cream is good, but the system is strange indeed.

Lights on and they're closed google maps needs to be updated. Says open until 9 p.m.! It wastes people's time getting off interstate! At least put the correct hours of operation.
