Skyline Chili is a Cincinnati institution. I used to partake in this iconic restaurant's food back when I lived in the area, and a return visit to see family members presented an opportunity to reacquaint myself with this sweet, savory chili. Driving north of Cincinnati on I-75, my wife and I made a late lunch pitstop at Skyline Chili in Reading, Ohio.
This Skyline Chili has a diner- style atmosphere with seating at the bar, tables, and booths. It's similar to a fast food restaurant in many ways, but a key difference is the table service. They take your order and bring your food to you, in reasonable time. And the price isn't much different from what you would pay for a fast food meal.
Skyline Chili serves many food options, including burritos, chicken tenders, etc but I recommend going for one of the food options that made Skyline Chili famous. I ordered a five- way when I visited, which consists of spaghetti, chili, onions, and beans, smothered with shredded cheese. The unique flavor of Skyline Chili, with its sweet, lightly spiced taste, plus pasta and cheese, makes for a hearty, savory meal. My wife got coneys and appreciated the fact that you can opt for habenero shredded cheese, for added spice.
Skyline Chili is still as good and consistent as I remember and I'm glad I took the time to pay a visit. It's nice that some things never change, and Skyline Chili hasn't, much to the approval of my taste buds and people everywhere who are hooked on this Cincinnati mainstay.
