The cashier returned one of the cards and told me there was about $11–$12 left on it. However, when I tried to use that gift card later, it showed a zero balance. It seems I was given back the fully used card instead of the one that still had money on it.

Why does Five Guys have peanuts for free?
Serving peanuts for free began as a way for people to pass the time while they waited for us to cook up their meals (way back in the day, before smartphones). It was such a hit, and has become such a Five Guys tradition, that we keep our stores stocked with peanuts to this day.
