  I do not like writing negative reviews. I went to Smashburger by Penn on 10th of April at 7PM. The restaurant was busy but not super super busy. The floor was dirty with cups on the floor and used gloves on the floor (??) in the dining area. The front of house lady was nice but they were not organizing their tickets at all and asked me multiple times for my name and once for what my order contained. The ordering kiosk had no dine in table numbers available so I ordered for takeout. Total time was about 12 minutes from order to handoff. They had decent business but not where they could not sweep the floor. There was a lady with a ponytail working in the open-window back of house packing and filling orders with a pink headband on. Headbands are not acceptable in lieu of a hairnet. She had long bangs in front of her face draping above the food and the back of her hair was loose. This is against the NYCDOH health code. I ordered a shrimp basket and tater tots. The food was just ok. Shrimp was a bit larger than popcorn shrimp and fairly breaded. Tater tots were just fine, decent crunch, oil was relatively clean.

  Food is good. However the service is terrible. Especially for the employee on the April 3rd in the afternoon. Terrible service, keep screaming at customers. Very long wait and when we ask about the food, they answer not kindly. No effort about the communication, no effort about the prononciation and when we ask to repeat because we are foreigners and we don’t get it, they just look at us haughtly and repeat even worse. Something was missing in our order as well. No apologies, no words. She just gave was was missing and that’s it. One more time, terrible service. Except chatting together and being very slow, nothing. But food is good

  El concepto de las hamburguesas es regular a secas. El servicio sí es muy deficiente; a pesar de que no había casi clientes cuando cené ahí, la mesera que está para coordinar tuvo una actitud muy mala (sin la amabilidad que se espera en cualquier lugar público). Es más bien un lugar para comer si vas con prisa y ya.

  Fuimos a comer unas hamburguesas a la salida del teatro en Broadway y si bien habían bastantes personas sentadas nos atendieron muy rápido y nos orientaron en castellano. El lugar es agradable y amplio. Las hamburguesas nos encantaron y vinieron también muy rápido. Nos v pedimos papas saladas y dulces para complementar. Todo impecable y muy rico. Algo para tener en cuenta si vas por la noche es que varias mesas están ocupadas por personas que no están consumiendo. Por lo demás el lugar es muy recomendable.

  I honestly don’t know how to rate this place. On one hand, the food is genuinely excellent. On the other, the line every single time drives me insane, even when I order ahead on the app. In my view, the place is severely understaffed. The employees work quickly and efficiently, but it feels like management is being too stingy, trying to squeeze as much productivity as possible out of a small team instead of hiring enough staff to handle the volume of customers. I’d give the food 5 stars. The service experience gets a 0, though it’s not really the staff’s fault, they’re clearly overwhelmed.
