About

RestaurantBarNobu Restaurants
As the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, we opened with much anticipation in the summer of 2005.Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.

The food was what you expect and have heard about, but our waiter was a true diva. He came to the table and threw the drink menu on the table, knocking over a glass of water. Then took about 20 minutes to come back and actually take our drink order. After about 45 minutes we actually got to order food, which then came quite quickly and was great. The noise and hustle, plus the warmth inside was quite unenjoyable as an experience.

Review of Nobu 57 To be honest, my expectations were exceeded. Firstly, the entrance: the glass door was covered in smudges. For a restaurant of this calibre, it looks cheap, unkempt and frankly worn out. Secondly, the service from the moment we walked in was non-existent. The hostess didn’t even stand up or say hello. She just sat there and stared silently until we struck up a conversation ourselves. When asked where to go, she didn’t show us the way, but just lazily waved her hand towards ‘over there’. We had to ask several times. When we asked for a table, as we’d come for lunch, we were curtly told there were no seats. No apologies, no attempt to help, no alternatives. After that, she simply turned on her heel and walked away. In the end, we just left in silence. No one said goodbye to us, no one tried to smooth things over or offer even the slightest alternative. It felt as though the guests were completely unwanted here. Is this really the standard of a restaurant with such a name? I am very disappointed, as I had wanted to have lunch at a posh restaurant and show my guest a high standard of service. I cannot recommend this place, unfortunately.

I visited Nobu Fifty Seven recently and had an exceptional experience. The restaurant has a sleek and sophisticated atmosphere, perfect for a special night out or an elegant dinner. The staff were attentive and professional, providing excellent service from start to finish. The Japanese-Peruvian fusion dishes were beautifully presented, fresh, and full of flavor, with the sushi and black cod standing out in particular. I also appreciated the carefully curated cocktail and wine selection. Overall, it’s a dining experience I would definitely return to and recommend to anyone seeking high-quality, innovative Japanese cuisine in the city.

We visited Nobu 57 for a Valentine's Day brunch during our trip to NYC, and it was the highlight of our visit. The sushi and sashimi quality is unparalleled. The flavors are incredibly intense and "pop" in a way that truly justifies the reputation. We also tried a bottle of Nobu’s proprietary Hokusetsu sake, which I highly recommend. It paired perfectly with the meal. The atmosphere is cool and upscale (the abalone shell chandeliers are stunning), making it the perfect spot for a special occasion. High-end dining at its finest!

It's been a couple weeks since my visit to Nobu. And I still feel like this place deserves a 1 star. It was my first Nobu visit ever. When I entered, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. She did not make eye contact with us once and talked in such a monotone, disinterested way, I wasn't sure if she was off or if this is the way people talk at posh establishments here. She sent us upstairs after asking for our phone number (?). Upstairs, an Asian man at the host stand asked for our name. We explained that we didn't have a reservation and never gave our name, we only provided our phone number downstairs. He asked AGAIN for our name and we repeated that we were never asked for our name. Then he asked for our phone number, confirmed it, and sent us on our way. This guy spoke to us in a pretentious tone, as if he were a snooty customer and not the host. Also what kind of walk-in system is this? The restaurant was half empty. We sat down and then ordered. Brunch prix fixe. Took OVER an hour for all the food to come out. Server was nice, no complaints. But the food was so mediocre. The sushi was not fresh or flavorful, and the sushi rice lacked vinegar and wasabi. The other dishes were fine but certainly not worth the $200 bill in total for 2 (after tip). Genuinely confused about the hype. Maybe it's dish/location-specific, but every other restaurant we went to in NYC had superior quality and service for the same or lower price point. On our way out, the male host ignored us without a goodbye or thank you. He wasn't even helping anyone or distracted. The energy at this place was so miserable, I don't even want to give the food a second chance.
