Good wine, a fantastic view, but atrocious—and frankly substandard—service (poor management?) at Miru, the rooftop bar at Pier 57, NYC. We enjoyed a good Pinot Noir on the terrace as the sun was setting... BUT: 1) the wine glasses were not clean at all; 2) it was the right wine, but the wrong vintage; 3) the server needed four attempts—and a lot of fumbling—just to uncork the bottle (had she ever practiced that before?); 4) there was no opportunity to taste the wine first; 5) you don't hold a wine bottle by the neck when pouring; 6) a glass of wine is filled less full than a glass of lemonade; and 7) we had to wait quite a while just to place our order, let alone to actually get the wine on the table. Thanks to the wine, however, I’m still giving it one star.

Have to edit this review as I went back last night and it was still good but not perfect like it was on Saturday night. The sushi was still an excellent quality but the rice was overcooked and mushy which is sacrilegious and unacceptable at these price points. The service wasn’t good either. Everyone was super nice but did not attend to our table, forgot parts of our order and was either slow or entirely MIA. Still love this place but these are unacceptable issues for a $200pp fine dining establishment.
What can I say about this place except it is exceptional in every way. Instantly one of my favorite places to eat. The food is outstanding, the drinks are wonderful and the view/atmosphere!!! It’s expensive so be prepared to spend but it is worth it!!
Miru is a Japanese rooftop restaurant and listening lounge located at Pier 57 in Chelsea, NYC. They provide Japanese inspired cocktails and eats, soundtracked by a curated vinyl listening experience. The dining room is versatile with an open floor of tables, open booths, and chef-side seating. Here’s what went down…
Shiro Blossom - My go-to drink for the night. Perfect mix, not too strong, not too sweet. Very satisfying.
Crispy Rice - I love how they presented this. The rise comes in a set of cubes and the Spicy Tuna and Hamachi come separately as sauces. You can choose how much, or how little you want to coat the rice with as the rice is actually flavorful on its own. Delicious, would get this every time.
Unagi Don - Grilled eel over rice with a jidori egg in the middle. The eel tastes so good. Grilled and seasoned nicely. The egg gave the rice and eel the texture compliment it needed.
Incredible meal and even more incredible views. Food was fresh and plated so beautifully. I highly recommend coming here during sunset time. Shoutout to the host for giving us the best seat in the house, with a perfect view of the sunset. There’s tons of indoor table seating, couch seating (with tables), and outdoor seating.
All of the staff were so attentive and kind. I’d highly recommend for a date night out or date with yourself.
It was quite empty at 6pm on a Wednesday. I’m guessing it gets more vibey / poppin’ on a weekend night.
Miru on Pier 57 sits up on the rooftop right next to the High Line in Chelsea, and the views alone already set the tone with a clean overlook of both the Manhattan and Jersey City skylines. The lighting is dim in the right way where it feels intimate without making you squint across the table. The food leans Japanese fusion and everything comes out beautifully plated with fresh ingredients that actually taste as good as they look. Nothing felt like filler and every dish had its intention. Service was top notch all around with genuine smiles that’s warm and welcoming. Definitely one of those spots that delivers on both vibe and quality with breathtaking views.
