  Usually fine dining in NYC feels technically correct but emotionally absent. Luthun, on the other hand, feels alive. The menu is smart, bold, and playful—eclectic in a way that feels both intentional and exciting (think 63 Clinton on steroids). Nothing feels safe, but nothing feels careless either. There’s real intention behind the chaos. The chef has trained in some of the most legendary kitchens ever—El Bulli, The Fat Duck, and The French Laundry. This isn’t just creative cooking; it’s deeply informed, technically precise, and wildly expressive food. Not every course hit my palate—but each had an element that won me over. For a small, relatively under-the-radar spot, Luthun will genuinely shake your palate.

  I've been to a few tasting menus, but this one is DIFFERENT, flavor-wise. Every course packed a punch like I've never had. The spices and seasonings are strong and they're clearly not playing safe, which I greatly appreciated.

  Luthun was one of the more enjoyable dining experiences of our trip. The atmosphere felt lively and welcoming, which was a refreshing contrast to some of the more serious tasting-menu restaurants in the city. The service team struck a great balance—attentive but relaxed—and made the evening feel comfortable rather than overly formal. What stood out most was the chef’s creativity. The menu felt thoughtful and imaginative, with dishes that pushed interesting flavor combinations while still being enjoyable to eat. You can feel the personality in the cooking, which made the experience engaging from start to finish. Overall, it’s a place that feels both refined and approachable at the same time. If you’re looking for a tasting menu that is inventive without feeling stiff or overly traditional, Luthun delivers. I would absolutely return.
