The dosas here are South Indian-style crispy crepes made from rice and lentils, served with a variety of fresh, house-made chutneys. They’re generously sized — comfortably a meal on their own — and the batter has a decent tang and crunch. The fillings lean creative and fusion-forward: options like grilled portobello mushrooms, spinach and goat cheese, and avocado with arugula and jack cheese sit alongside more traditional masala potato fillings. It’s an interesting menu that’ll appeal to a broad crowd, though dosa purists may raise an eyebrow.
The chutneys are a genuine highlight. Cilantro, coconut, mango, peanut — there’s a solid selection, and they’re clearly made with care. The coconut in particular stands out.
So why not higher than a 7? The fusion angle is fun, but it occasionally pulls the dosa away from what makes the form special. The crisp can be inconsistent, and the fillings, while fresh, sometimes feel more like a wrap in dosa clothing than a true South Indian experience. It’s a very good casual meal — just not a transcendent one.
That said, for East Hampton or the Astor Place location in NYC, it’s a smart, fresh, and satisfying choice. Worth visiting, worth trying the chutneys, and worth going back for if you’re in the area.
Verdict: A crowd-pleasing, ingredient-forward take on the dosa that earns its fanbase — just don’t expect it to transport you to Chennai.
