As the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, we opened with much anticipation in the summer of 2005.Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.
The food is generally praised for its freshness and flavor, with standout dishes like yellowtail jalapeño and black cod miso receiving high marks, though some customers found certain items underwhelming or overpriced.
Service Experience
Service quality varies significantly; while many reviews highlight attentive and friendly staff, others report inattentive or rude service, particularly during busy times.
Atmosphere
The restaurant's ambiance is often described as upscale and lively, but some customers noted it can be excessively noisy, making conversation difficult.
Pricing
Many customers feel the prices are high, with some expressing that the food and service do not always justify the cost.

I was shopping and holidays in NYC, with family, I made reservations on December 20th, it was the worst food and atmosphere experience, I ordered similar food and drinks as I do at Zuma in the four seasons, the food was horrible at nobu, horrible drink the worst drinks I ever had, and they sat us in the bar when we booked a table, and then they put in screaming children in the bar area, I love children but not in a bar!!! It was the worst dining experience I ever had in NYC, horrible!!! But we shopped and had many delicious dinners in other restaurants!!! Zuma in Boston is the best!!!!!!!! The worst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobu Fifty Seven was phenomenal. The food was what I expected it to be, but don't buy into the hype. Nobu's food overall was amazing and everything was perfect. Staff and service were perfect and the restaurant and atmosphere is stunning. But is it the best Japanese place in NYC as many say? Probably not, but is still amazing and well worth your time. Also costs quite a pretty penny comparatively to other Japanese restaurants in its class.

Absolutely fantastic experience at Nobu on 57th Street. The food is truly delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. The ambience strikes the perfect balance between elegant and relaxed, making it a great spot for both a special night out and a comfortable dinner.
The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive — you can feel how much care they put into every detail. A very special mention goes to our waiter, Deon T., who delivered some of the most friendly and service‑minded attention I’ve ever experienced. He made the evening even more memorable.
Highly recommended.

I recently had dinner at Nobu in New York and overall it was a very good experience. We had a reservation for 10 p.m. and still waited about ten minutes to be seated, which wasn’t too bad, but worth noting given how busy the restaurant stays. The atmosphere inside is sleek and modern, and the service was attentive without feeling rushed.
We started with drinks and ordered the Coconut Matcha and the Lychee Martini. The Coconut Matcha was smooth and lightly sweet, and I really enjoyed it. The Lychee Martini had a refreshing floral flavor but was a little strong for me, so I didn’t enjoy it quite as much.
For appetizers, the standout for me was the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño. It had a bright, slightly sour citrus note that paired perfectly with the subtle heat from the jalapeño. It was easily my favorite dish of the night. We also tried the crispy rice with spicy tuna. The tuna itself was creamy and flavorful, but the rice was a bit too crispy for my taste and left the top of my mouth a little tender. The wagyu gyozas were good but underwhelming. They tasted similar to dumplings you can find anywhere and didn’t have the special richness I expected from wagyu.
The rock shrimp in creamy spicy sauce, however, were excellent. The shrimp were tender and coated in a sauce that had a great balance of creaminess and heat. The portion size was surprisingly generous compared to several of the other dishes, which felt on the smaller side.
We also ordered the chef’s recommendation of the night, a plate featuring twelve different pieces of sushi. Most of the pieces were very fresh and well prepared. A few had a slightly fishy taste that wasn’t my favorite, but overall it was an enjoyable selection and beautifully presented. Lastly I had dessert, it was super yummy! Forgot the name though..
In general, the food at Nobu is very good and the presentation is truly exceptional. My only hesitation is the pricing. Several of the portions feel quite small for the cost, and some dishes didn’t feel distinctive enough to justify the premium price tag. Still, the overall experience was memorable and worth trying at least once, especially if you appreciate refined Japanese cuisine with creative touches. We were a party of two and paid around $500.
