As the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, we opened with much anticipation in the summer of 2005.Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.
Friendly and accommodating staff. I had a great experience as a solo diner at the sushi counter. One of the few places that I’ve found that has sushi that is the equal to what a grew to enjoy while traveling in Japan. I ordered the Oceans 12 and was starving and each nigiri was presented as soon as completed..

Had a wonderful dinner at Nobu Fifty Seven. The prawn tempura maki roll was crisp and delicious, and the Chilean sea bass with umami was absolutely outstanding, rich, tender and full of flavor. Every dish we tried was beautifully prepared and the overall experience was fantastic.

Service was great and meal was great but there was an alarm going off for over half of hour 1.5 hour meal and it was extremely unsettling with bright flashing lights in the dimly lit room and an alarm sound at the beginning of each “round” of alarm. We asked the host and our waiter multiple times and were told multiple times it was a routine test of the alarm and would be over in 10 minutes. It lasted far longer than 10 minutes. We left before getting dessert because of how uncomfortable the constant alarm made us. It definitely set a tone that something bad might be about to happen and that was not an atmosphere we wanted to pay this exorbitant amount of money to be in anymore. It was our first time dining here and was for my husband’s birthday and we were extremely disappointed it wasn’t more enjoyable. I feel bad for the wait staff stuck in that situation all night.

Love the vibe here—it’s lively without being chaotic. Music’s up, tables are full of chatter, and the staff are super friendly, attentive, and fun to interact with. You can tell everyone’s enjoying themselves, and it makes the whole experience feel way more relaxed and fun. The food? Consistently excellent. Every dish we had was spot-on, which is always a relief when you’re trying somewhere new. It’s one of those spots that works for just about any occasion: brunch, dinner, drinks with friends—you name it. Between the atmosphere, the food, and the friendly staff, it’s a combo that makes you want to come back again and again. Definitely one of my favorite local spots for a lively, satisfying meal.

Never going back. Absolutely unacceptable experience.
We had a terrible experience on Valentine’s Day. This was our first time at this specific location, although we’ve visited other locations of this chain before — and this was by far the worst service we’ve ever received.
My partner and I sat down at 9:30 PM and ordered quickly. The first dish arrived only at 10:12 PM, the second at 10:25 PM, and then we waited another 50 minutes for the rest of the food (I am attaching photos with timestamps). This level of delay is completely unreasonable. During this entire time, our server, Julisa, never once checked on us or updated us. When we finally asked, we were told our order was pushed back and they were “working on it.”
Our order was entirely sushi — not hot dishes that require long preparation times — so there is really no justification for this kind of wait.
Because of the delay, we ended up canceling several dishes before they even arrived because we were no longer hungry. When the sushi finally came, we discovered that most (not all) of the nigiri pieces had wasabi inside. There is no indication of this anywhere on the menu. My partner, who ordered these dishes, does not eat spicy food at all, and when he tried them it was extremely unpleasant for him. When we asked Julisa, her response was simply, “Usually it comes with wasabi.” Customers are not mind readers — if this is standard, it needs to be clearly written on the menu.
At that point we decided to end the meal and asked for the check. We were clearly upset, yet no one approached us, no apology was offered, and no attempt was made to fix the situation or offer any compensation.
We paid and left extremely disappointed. This was supposed to be a special Valentine’s Day dinner and turned into a very frustrating and disappointing experience.
