I don’t normally share an experience that was disappointing; however, because this restaurant is considered one of my favorite places - I’m concerned that yesterday may have changed my perception.
I’ll start with the cons:
1. It took some time to receive our food - I’m not sure if it was because we were a party of nine; however, it was a good wait.
2. When the food arrived, the plates were lukewarm at best. I wished my plate was hot like it has been several times before. The manager did apologize for that.
3. The servers started sharing my sides with the whole table. I was left with a corner of my sides, even though I specifically asked to not share since I wanted to take it to go. Our server for the evening apologized and brought one of the sides back out to me. I didn’t receive the other one.
4. The food was underwhelming based on seasoning/taste and undercooked based on the temperature - it was not memorable like the other times I’ve visited. My sister, who was celebrating her birthday yesterday had to ask the kitchen to cook her steak to medium well. They took the steak back in and it was cooked slightly; it was not to her liking. The food was bland; not as seasoned and felt grainy as well. I don’t know what had happened there. We told the manager and she gave my sister a free dessert for her birthday.
The pros:
1. I love that this restaurant accommodates people to enjoy a fine dining experience. It was nice to see a younger crowd of people enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant.
2. The live music is always a fantastic experience here. I walked in and heard a person request “You Get What You Give” by New Radicals - I love that!
3. Even though the food was underwhelming, I believe that the service provided is amazing. You don’t have to lay a finger on mostly anything; everything is served with professionalism from the serving staff.
4. It’s located in the heart of Manhattan; such a beautiful place to be in especially in the holidays.
Overall, I think this experience could have been better based on the bill: $1,251. That was $165 per person. I hope this review supports the restaurant in understanding what could be adjusted moving forward.

A great impression from the start. The restaurant has a classy, comfortable feel to it, and even though some areas of the dining room are a little tight, the overall atmosphere is warm and inviting. It has that upscale vibe without feeling stiff or overwhelming!
The service was just as solid. Everyone was attentive and friendly, and the pacing of the meal was right on point. Shout out to my guy Rony, he never rushed, never waiting too long. It really felt like the staff cared about making sure we had a good experience.
After taking in the atmosphere, I started with the calamari. It was crisp, light, and not greasy at all. It came with two dipping sauce a spicy mayo and a sweet chili sauce. Both paired perfectly with the dish. It was a strong start to the meal.
For my main course, I had the 8 ounce filet, butterflied, and it ended up being the standout of the entire night. Tender throughout with a perfect sear on the outside, it was seasoned exactly right and cooked with real precision. Easily one of the better filets I’ve had lately.
My sides were the lobster mac & cheese and the scallion potatoes. The lobster mac was rich, creamy, and loaded with real pieces of lobster! Not just a few bits tossed in for show. The scallion potatoes had a great crisp on the outside and a soft, fluffy center, FIRE!
Overall, Maestro delivered a memorable meal. Between the atmosphere, the service, and the quality of the food especially that filet. I’d definitely recommend it and will be coming back.

Let me start this review by saying how much I love Mastro’s. I truly enjoy the atmosphere, the food, and the overall dining experience. It’s usually a wonderful time whenever I make a reservation there.
However, this recent visit was a complete disappointment — not because of the food or service at the table, but because of the check-in experience. There was a hostess named Kendal (apologies if I’m spelling that incorrectly) whose approach and attitude were completely inappropriate. She repeatedly insisted that my 4-year-old nephew could not be seated because he was wearing a hoodie, stating, “Hoodies are not allowed.” The way she handled it was unnecessarily harsh and uncomfortable.
What made it worse was that shortly after, another group of African American women was seated beside us — and the little girl with them was wearing a hoodie. That inconsistency felt unfair and upsetting. I called for the manager, Daisy, who thankfully was incredibly understanding and kind. She acknowledged the situation instead of immediately defending the hostess, and her professionalism was truly a breath of fresh air.
Adding to the distress, my nephew is special needs, and the confrontation caused him to become anxious and have a meltdown. My sister had to take him downstairs to calm him down, which really broke my heart.
Despite the rocky start, our server Terrell and manager Daisy were outstanding. They turned what began as a terrible experience into something bearable. Their kindness and professionalism deserve recognition — they were the perfect remedy for an otherwise disappointing evening.

the house salad i ordered here was unlike anything i’ve ever seen. it seemed as tho someone had thrown together cutting board scraps (roughly unevenly chopped onions and for some reason two pieces of what seemed to be bell pepper) with cottage cheese, no seasoning, and a mound of iceberg lettuce. then they garnished it with a raw shrimp without asking about allergies ??? as soon as i took one look at it i couldn’t believe i was in a 5 star restaurant. i already knew i was in store for a sorry taste, but i tried to be open minded and give it a try. it was indeed flavorless and strange. the shrimp was really the part that took me out. i immediately had to send it back. A colossal disappointment it was. you won’t catch me dining here again by choice !
