I was very excited to come to Little Beet, having heard great things about the brand and their offerings. I used to work in food and climate, and even got to interview some of their corporate team members for a project.
Pros: They have a number of premium, healthy, tasty options catering to a variety of diets. Big emphasis on flavor and plant-based dishes.
Cons:
- Portions are quite small and the pricing quite high compared to other health-oriented, fast casual competitors. Especially Avo, which is located right around the corner, and has a rewards system for regular customers.
- My biggest con is arguably the fact that they do not allow customers to tip workers. I was shocked when I checked out, but was not prompted to tip digitally on screen. This is easily amendable on the Square app. I know plenty of places that are *premium* and think tipping is gauche, but so is paying your workers the minimal wage. I mean, foodservice workers depend on tips to make a living. It is over 50% of their income. For a company that prides itself on sustainability, the focus seems quite narrow. Sustainability isn’t just (environmental) — like sourcing and locality — it’s also (social) — and about caring for your employees and ensuring they’re properly compensated. It seems oxymoronic that Little Beet has not aligned these two pillars. Please amend your Square app so that we can tip your employees. They look tired and underpaid!

It’s been a minute since I’ve eaten here. The food they offered hasn’t changed but I see they’re charging for things that use to be a part of the meal. That’s unfortunate. Guys don’t start nickel and diming us to death.
