Pretty disappointing for a “new and improved” rest stop. All the food courts and restaurants were closed, and Starbucks was the only place open - but their ovens were broken, and they were extremely short-staffed, so even coffee orders took ages. Even the pre-made hot food stations were out of order. Hard to give a decent rating when there’s literally no food available at 8 AM on a Sunday.

This place is a classic example of receiving an intended upgrade, but in reality, it's a MASSIVE DOWNGRADE. The old building was fantastic. Plenty of food options, very quick and efficient service, and plenty of places to sit and eat. You could go to Roy Rogers, which is 1000x better than Shake Shack, and be sitting down eating your meal within 5 minutes. If you needed to use the restroom, it was clean for the most part, and the soap dispenser worked, because it was mechanical. This new piece of junk place...this downgrade.....first of all, there is hardly any tables to sit down and eat your food...they waste room in this new place by putting couches all over the middle of the floor. This is stupid. I am here to eat something, and get back on the road. Also, I went to use the bathroom, and half the soap dispensers didn't work...and they had soap. I looked underneath and saw a full tub. Had they just used a simple push button dispenser, it would not be a problem. And Shake Shack....pfft more like Slack Shack. They make you order yourself on the kiosk, which, is very poorly designed. I wanted a simple plain cheeseburger. Every time I went to edit the order, it changed something else. I then went to correct those changes, and it changed another thing! After playing with it for 10 minutes, I finally got frustrated, and demanded for an actual person to take my order. He put it in, and I still had to wait another 30 minutes before I even received my food...and it wasn't even hot! This is insane! Not only did Roy Rogers taste better, but the service was much better too! Their system had workers cook the burgers, and put them in one of those hot lamp dispensers. All the customer had to do was pick up their burger, pay the cashier, and walk to the fixins' bar just past the register to make the burger to your liking. Plus there were tons of tables to sit down and eat. They didn't put couches in the middle of the floor. You were sitting down eating your food in less than 5 minutes. That is how you run a rest stop. Fast and efficient service. I have been driving up to Lake George every summer for 20 years. I used to time my lunch to stop at this service station, because it was a quick, tasty, and enjoyable experience. This new place makes me want to pull my hair out. After having the same horrendous experience 2 years in a row, I refuse to stop at any Applegreen stations again. They have single handedly downgraded every rest stop on the NY State Thruway. Take my advice, if you are hungry, just take the next exit off the Thruway, and find a mom and pop place to get something to eat. Your wallet and sanity will thank you.

I have lived in New York for the last 17 years. 95% of the time I have never been happy with what the governor has done. It’s always cost way too much money and always included way too many unnecessary things. I do absolutely love the rest, stop remodels. It didn’t cost the state of dime and the private company that they chose. Did a fantastic job. I know my fellow gays love to hate on Chick-fil-A, but they are entitled to their beliefs and rights too! At the end of the day, I patron them every chance I get because they’ve run a fantastic business. I have never been to a fast food restaurant besides Chick-fil-A that actually treats you like a human being and provide you food that actually taste like food without chemical chemicals. God bless Chick-fil-A and these beautiful Thruway rest stops!
