This was my second time at Wagner Vineyards and they never disappoint. I was hoping that John would be our wine guide and was so happy to see him. His vast knowledge of the history of wine turns an otherwise everyday tasting into something more. I can’t wait to come back and hope to see John again!

As I sit here enjoying this Wagner 2020 Merlot, I think back to the great conversation John Pulos and I recently had regarding Merlots in the Fingerlakes. This Merlot is truly an exceptional one, a masterpiece that is a keeper! Not only this wine, but all their vinifera and library wines are outstanding. Wagner is a great vineyard with truly remarkable leadership at the helm (John & Debbie Wagner). Their leadership is elevated by staff who makes each and every tasting memorable. John Pulos, being that person who goes above and beyond to make your tasting exceptional. As a restauranteur, author of wine and food, and an educator, John brings the FLX wine tasting experience to life during your wine tasting. From comparing vertical library wines (I’m a wine club member) to tasting reds vs whites……and all that lies in-between. John explains each and every wine that he gives you to taste. This elevates your awareness of the wines and their tastes. Allowing you to compare and contrast each one. John is highly knowledgeable not only in Wagner’s wine, but the greater FLX region. He speaks of this well as he shares the history of FLX’s growth over the years from Dr. Franks arrival to now. This is John’s passion to teach and educate on wine. I truly say, he has left a great impression upon me, for which I am most grateful. I have tasted with John many times. Each and every time I sit with him I learn something new about wine and my path to enjoying it. I always appreciate my time with John Pulos and enjoy the continued education I get. He is a remarkable man whom we in FLX Aficionados kindly refer to as the ‘Bible of the FLX’ you cannot go wrong with a wine tasting from John! Cheers!🍷

No tasting experience should be contentious. Sadly I can very safely say this experience was quite unique but most definitely not in a positive way.
John P was our host. Moments after arriving he introduced himself by telling us how tremendously educated he is regarding wine. He told us he was an author and an expert on the region and much much more. And no doubt he has a lot of information and provided a lot of facts and interesting anecdotes. But welcoming he wasn't, quite the opposite.
He introduced the tasting experience by telling us that we would be able to taste five wines. I chose most of the ones he recommended but not all of them and commented that I was sure he'd let me taste the 6th if I wanted as every other place certainly does that. Not john, John was insulted that I didn't leverage his brilliance. Not only did I not get a sixth line to taste but the pours I got were half of everybody else's.
A wine host should be friendly and accommodating and do everything they can to help you enjoy the experience, and recommend it to others, and come back, and purchase wine. Because of John's pompous attitude he failed on every one of those. We will not be back. This was not an enjoyable experience at all.
